Four arrested in alleged bribery case

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and two others were arrested Tuesday in a $20 million bribery and kickback case that prosecutors say helped pay for the purchase of more than a dozen properties, Rolex and Cartier watches, fancy sports cars and hotel accommodations, first-class airline tickets and a trove of other personal luxuries.
Prosecutors say the case may be one of the largest procurement fraud schemes in the nation's history.


An indictment unsealed Tuesday includes charges of bribery, conspiracy and unlawful kickbacks. The two Army Corps employees, Kerry F. Khan, a program manager, and Michael A. Alexander, a program director, received kickbacks in exchange for directing government contracts to a subcontractor specializing in software encryption devices and other information technology, prosecutors say. The men had the authority either to order products and services through government contracts or to secure funding for projects.

James48843 - I miss your updates on the protests at wallstreet. Being the busy person I am right now and choosing to spend my time here on the message board, it was great to see this news without internet surfing.

Was the objection against the thread about the posting of the letter calling for action? Was posting the pictures and news links acceptable?

Call me lazy right now, but I spend my time here and try to avoid the beltway as my blood pressure always increases when I'm on the beltway.

If that was the reason, then the Buster and Burro show on the 2012 Retirement Cola thread should have been closed. I didn't see a lot of acrimony, just some defending of the police and setting the record straight on the news article edits. Of course Busters off-subject posting of the Walmart videos didn't help the thread, but I don't open those kinds of videos.

This is a current news item that is relevant to the economy discussions and where the market may be headed as these protests do have the ability to be drivers of public sentiment. Maybe that is why the news is ignoring this protest...do they want to keep the ability to move the market for themselves? If this is just a flash in the pan occupation/protest, why not show it on TV and here. It's good to understand all the current events that can affect the markets as it makes us smarter investors. JMO
