I'm Assuming that Most or Some of us are on Medicare. I still have FedBlue Basic Plan (Blue Cross 113).
Are you guys still using the Feds Health Care Plan? I'm assuming that it is better then Medicare Part C.
With the Price going up I'm Not sure if I should switch. It would be nice to have a Forum Topic on Health Care.

The topic comes up every once in a while. Here is another thread of similar:

Personally, I had FEHB until I turned 65. Then I SUSPENDED my FEHB, enrolled in Medicare A and B, and , because I’m retired military as well, I have TriCare for life. Finally, I also am enrolled in VA health care.

I decided to suspend, not stop, FEHB, so I still could reenroll at a future open season if I want. I’m happy now with Medicare and TriCare- although I really haven’t had to use it yet. I get my routine meds / prescriptions through VA for a small copay.

Agree. I'm not too savvy on it since my wife takes care of it via FEHA, but I feel like the GEHA plan we have has become terrible for paying the smaller stuff. I have a secondary dental plan along with GEHA and between the two they recently paid $32 of a $1300 bill. So helpful. What would I do without them?

They probably make it up with larger expenses, but hopefully I won't need to find out. 🤕

But yes, it sounds like a good subject to start. Thanks!

I also have GEHA High Detectable for the Dentist.
OK, I'm still an active Fed, so I can't speak to the whole Medicare stuff, but I am currently on BCBS Basic and have been for a number of years. Cost has exploded over the past 5 years in my opinion.

I've done some research and for DC area, I'm thinking of switching to the MHBP plan standard (My understanding is all feds can select this plan). We're on a self +1 but the family plan is about the same price. It's a $700 deductible and I believe a $52 union-ish fee per year, but it's still around 2,600 less per year for self +1. The co-pays for primary and specialists are less than BCBS basic (Specialist visits went up from $40 to $50 for BCBS basic). If you need surgery, etc., I think it's like 10% co-pay (after you meet the deductible), but based on the NEGOTIATED rates which tend to be far cheaper than what the doctors bill the insurance company.

It's an Aetna product, so I checked and all my doctors participate.

Dental - We're on BCBS high plan, about 47 a PP for self +1. One nice thing about BCBS high dental (not sure about standard), they cover 3 cleanings per year, not just 2, but still only 2 exams. In my area the premium is within a few dollars of the other "high" dental plans.

Since I'm sticking with the extra dental, I'm not too worried about losing the basic dental from the BCBS basic plan.

You can search the internet, there's a a decent thread on Reddit about MHBP vs. BCBS. A number on my co-workers are thinking of switching.

Anyway, with essentially no pay raise, I gotta look to see where I can trim down on expenses.

I never heard of MHBP. It seems that it's for Mail Handlers, which I am Not. Thanks for the response, it may help others.

It is a Mail Handlers plan - but it IS open to all those eligible for FEHB.

I had NALC - which was a great plan, but is no longer being offered outside of the Postal Service. After reviewing the various options I chose MHBP. I don't like % copays, but that seems to be the way of the future. The % copays in MEHB are low and the number of them is minimal.

Had nalc here too. Switched to bcbs standard and not happy about increase. . But wife’s insulin and other drugs is the culprit.

Considered mail handlers. Didn’t cover some drugs. They don’t make it easy to really know for sure. Oh and leaving nalc people to default to geha high option is evil. lol.

I’d much rather go back geha hdhp. Fully recommend this if you don’t have high drug costs. Max hsa. Invest it. Had that for years prior to nalc in 2019.

I'm looking at the MHBP Standard Plan from Aetna (Thx for the Tip). So far it seems very good. I'm going to talk to a rep. soon.
