Fed Talk

What Powell said yesterday:

Fed Chief Powell says stock prices appear ‘fairly highly valued’

“We do look at overall financial conditions, and we ask ourselves whether our policies are affecting financial conditions in a way that is what we’re trying to achieve,” Powell said. “But you’re right, by many measures, for example, equity prices are fairly highly valued.”

Surprisingly an entertaining interview for a Fed Member:

New York Fed President Williams sees room for ‘further adjustment’ to rates

New York Fed President John Williams said Friday he expects the central bank can lower its key interest rate from here as labor market weakness poses a bigger threat than higher inflation.

Following his comments, stock market futures rose further into positive territory while Treasury yields were sharply lower and markets priced in a higher probability for a December rate cut.

The rate is a range: It fell from 3.75% - 4.0% TO 3.5% - 3.75%.

I'm not sure why they do the rate range. But it started several years ago.

The statement and Jerome Powell’s press conference seem far less hawkish than many anticipated. Although the Fed announced a rate cut, Powell emphasized that policy is moving closer to a theoretical “neutral” level, one that neither stimulates nor restricts economic activity. Even so, the Committee appears to be choosing between additional cuts or maintaining current rates. Raising rates is not on the table.

So Tom- in your question of who will Trump name to the Fed- you should have put down HIMSELF as a choice.

And Don Jr. —. he’d be likely too.
