European stock markets gain as traders await policy clues
European stocks and US futures gained after modest moves across Asian bourses as traders awaited fresh clues on US monetary policy. Investors will, however, eagerly await a summary of Federal Reserve rate setters’ discussions during the late-July meeting. Policymakers chose to cut rates for the first time since 2008 last month in what chairman Jay Powell insisted was a “mid-cycle adjustment.” Markets are still expecting several more quarter-point reductions to the central bank’s benchmark interest rate.
