Hello all. I’m starting this as a bit of a solicitation of advice to increase my knowledge and potential for growth and gains.
I am 32, been enlisted for about 8 years (8 in April2018). I have a rent home in Colorado Springs (Fountain) that is self-sustaining and makes enough money to cover yearly maintenance and even cover an emergency like broken water heater or busted pipe. I have a wonderful wife who has managed to save money every month since we enlisted and now we have a 30k+ savings. We just started a ROTH TSP in October with 30,30,30,10- CSI&G. We also just started a mutual fund investment with 6k (UCAGX) USAA Cornerstone aggressive. And I recently bought 14 shares of XIV. don’t know anything about short/long term trades, just learning.
Soooo, I’ve been poking around and see some good returns posted. I have a few questions.
1. Does the max contribution go from start date +12 months, with the fiscal year oct-oct, or calendar Jan-Jan??? I’m at 15k but just started in October.
2. When people speak of pulling out, does that mean that they just pull out of risky funds and hide in the G for a while.
3. Do some actual switch allocation multiple times a month? Like I for a few days. Then S a few??
4. So mutual funds, are they supposed to not change too much in price? My Usaa cornerstone aggressive has hovered around 12ish for a year or so.
5. I’ve invested in a few stocks and lost my $$A backwards. It seems that as soon as I put in 2000$ in a stock, it immediately drops. Like it’s waiting for a sorry sap like me to come along and give away free money. I mean, the stock could be green for a month straight, then I decided to go in and then it goes red until I get anxious about losing it all that I sell for a loss.
6. Volume- is that $$ invested or number of shares bought? Like if volume 2.5M, does that mean they have 2.5 M shares out there, or that the shareholders have a combined amount of $2.5M in that stock? Either way, I feel like as soon as I put in my measly little 2grand it becomes unstable. Am I crazy???? Yeah I know, silly question. I’m green.
Fire at will.
Any and all advice is appreciated, even if it’s “go pound sand and figure it out like we did”!
I plan on using this as a record of my growth. I’ll post questions and updates periodically.
Thank you to all who are active on this forum and willing to share the secrets of the market!!!!
May 2018 bring in the biggest growth for all of us.... financially, personally, spiritually, whatever your goals are, I hope you go after them aggressively and tactically.
