Dec 31 Insight!!!!!!!!!

That's the exact way I want to go out also. Just a few handshakes and hugs from my co-Workers and out the door I go. I'm not into the pomp and pageantry. My big boss is retiring at the end of the year and has has already made it known he doesn't want anything either.

Now if it was only 4 years from now or that buyout is on it's way. :D

That's the way I felt about it but they wouldn't go for it! It was nice though, they collected $400 and gave it to me as a parting gift, I quickly spent that in Home Depot on Dewalt tools!:D Also received an American Flag in a glass case with a placard stating my info and that it had flown over the base one day in my honor, along with that a Base Medallion presented by our SES, all of this and a free meal at the Country Buffet, what more can you ask? :D

Yeah, I have to endure one of these, but hey! it is for them not me so what the heck. They want a love-in? I'm cool with that. In my case it is the day before, the 30th, so I have one last night shift to work on the 31st, kinda awkward.

Yeah, I'd have to sober up, and then I'd probably space it out anyway, show up late!

My last shift is with the office bully, the guy we all cordially dislike. I keep changing my mind on whether to give him a "Come To Jesus Talk" before I clock out for good.

Only 2500 + days for me.

We have a guy retiring 31 Dec also. 38+ years. Hmm...let's see...(5x.015)+(5x.0175)+(28x.02)x high three average salary=...damn CSRS people.;)

You all have a great holiday and even greater retirement!

Please think of the rest of us once in a while when you wake up and think "damn, I don't have to do anything today if I don't want to".

regards
.

Yes its nice. Outside of a few small matters, I don't do anything but not bored yet after two years.

You guys still on the job, do your best at work and you will be highly rewarded upon retirement. Good luck to all of you, working or retired.

give him the talk. The Spirit most likely brought it to your mind at first anyway.

Well mates it is coming down to the wire and I will retire next week. I have a full week of getting ready to head back to Alabama, but I did want to stop by to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all of you.

As the dust settles and OPM, TSP, and SS kicks in, I will report my story line here!

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Well hit the first of the trifecta points yesterday (22nd) with my 62nd birthday. Christmas is the second of the three points. And then the third, like Zebra, will be New Years eve and retirement. Time has flown by since I started the retirement process. Thought time would drag like a kid waiting for Christmas. I'm more than ready for the next step of life's adventure. And my wife has her "honey-do" list ready. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

Good luck to all you folks pulling the plug..I'm sure you all know this..but just in case...make sure your last day is BEFORE January 3rd..otherwise, any later than that, don't expect to see your first annuity check until March 1st...

Nanyways..it took me about a month of sitting around doing those honey-do's before it really sank in that my 36 year career as a Fed employee was actually over...After a couple of doobies and a few good deep gulps of reality..it settled in and life went on.

It's all good fellas..enjoy your time while you can..:)

Zebra, I imagine you'll be traveling I-10/I-12 across southern Louisiana on your way back to Alabama. If you give me a holler I'll buy you lunch at Ihop in Covington. I think I'll be free. ;)

That doesn't apply to those under FERS which is why we are going on the 31st. If we went on Jan 1, we wouldn't see first check until March.

You maybe right, I don't know for sure..But the wording was plain and did not differentiate between CSRS or FERS..just that OPM has in general, a 3 day grace period into the new month and you'd still be retiring in the last month..At least that's how I remember it was explained at the retirement seminars for both FERS and CSRS.

Also retiring on the 31st. Had originally planned on getting out on the 2 Jan. but, was informed if I didn't retire on the 31st it would be March 1st before my first check. Good Luck to All, Vol46

Well i was gonna stay to get the holiday pay for New Years, but when I was briefed about when to retire I decided to give up the holiday to get my first check a month early.

jimijr...I was amazed how much more tolerable my work situation was as retirement got closer. Was like the proverbial cat who ate the canary. Nothing can wipe the grin off my face. WOW, only 4 days to go. And the 31st is normal off day. WOOHOO!!!

Would you get an in-lieu-of holiday? I'm working the 31st because I want one more great fat paycheck on Jan 10th. I've been accumulating a war chest so OPM can take its sweet time while The Dude abides.
