I want to sign up for the USAA credit card. Which one do you like? American Express or Master Card?
How is their home and auto policies? Ever had a claim? My wife got rear-ended by a USAA member and they handled the claim without any hassle.
I've been with USAA for 19 years now, and I swear by them. Got three car loans over the years (all at less than local bank rates), credit cards, home mortgage (twice as easy on the paperwork for that- they already knew me, so that paperwork was tiny compared to some places), home insurance, car insurance, wife's IRA.
I am thinking of doing a stock trading account with them too, but I haven't done that just yet. Got that account somewhere else- left over from before USAA had all my business.
If you want a fair deal on on-line banking, or credit cards, or car loans, and you are a current military member, or honorably discharged veteran, you can't beat USAA.
I can't find anything better for me than USAA. I've only been with them a short time but it's been great so far.

I just got my Dear Joe letter from CITI bank yesterday. They are raising the rates on new purchases to 24%. " there will be no new Purchases" I will close the account today. Last week I closed my Sears Account which I had for 35 years

That notice will come about 90 prior to the change. It is required by existing law.
Now, here is the nice part...
You can snail mail the company at an address provided and decline the change. Inherent in that notice you may elect to have the card closed. Maybe some companies auto-close the card. It is better for YOUR credit rating to close the card yourself in the letter you send.
Then, viola, you close the card at your request and the exisitng agreement is in affect till it is paid off. DO NOT use the card. Using the card can imply agreement.
I have done this on three cards over the years. One of which did not close my account and begged forgiveness. We shall see. Keeping copies of the paperwork:notrust:
Yeah, my daughter swears by them. I still can't forgive them and other companies for the car insurance scam on junior enlisted overseas in the '70s. I still don't understand why a 22 year old single 0-2 with a Corvette paid about 1/4 what a 24 year old married E-3 with two kids paid for minimum coverage on a 15 year old Ford Taurus beater.
I am satisfied with my USAA bank card.
Fixed 8.35%
Never had an issue with them. They don't play that game.
By the way- they just opened USAA membership to any veteran. Originally, USAA only served active duty officers. Over the years they opened membership to enlisted, guard and reserve, retirees, and now to any veteran.
If you are interested in their services (insurance, banking, home loans, etc), see http://www.usaa.com . It's worth checking into if you qualify.
If your interest rate suddenly goes up above 25% annual rate, or worse above 40% Annual rate (as in xLady's case), even one month's interest could be nasty. Not even worth using the card at all at some of these rates since often interest compounds daily.
As you probably know, they make money on both ends. So even when someone pays off their balance each month (which they don't seem to like) they made money on the purchase from the merchant. The fees for this and that seem endless. For example, on top of the regular purchase processing fees, if I don't have the latest version of a computer language to handle the transactions, there is a $19.95 fee until I upgrade.actually - paying off your credit card means you are not a good customer & they end up only being your bookkeeper w/o pay; :notrust: and fines are being considered if you do that - But, Mayday, I have been able to locate where I read that. ...Sunday's paper, maybe.
