For our daughter it was at 22 yo plus a 30 day grace period for BCBS family plan.

22 for my son.....He just fell off, make sure your college grad has all their physical work done before graduation.....

My daughter turns 22 next year and she has 5 appointments for checkups and reviews.

My Daughter is still at home and going to school. Had to get her other health Insurance $$$$$$ when she turned 22!!! Also I can't claim her as a dependent on TAXES at 22, they get you every chance they get!! manavatar.gif

NP, just check with them and see if they will allow an extension....probably be a $$$FEE$$$ involved. Currently my son is not covered. The Fee I was looking at was $400/month. I couldn't swing it. He has a college clinic close by to help on little things.

 Good Luck!

I was just checking on this myself. They are cut off at age 22. You can get insurance through their college for about $100 probably.

Frixxx, Was BC/BS $400/mo for TCC (temp cont. of coverage)? If so, thats awful high.
I was wondering about an HSA for my son. He also has some pre existing conditions that will be a problem getting new insurance. Grrr
Maybe the Obama health care will bail me out.

The healthcare system won't bail you out....As a matter of fact, it is not clear where my son fits in to the new healthcare plan.....
Yes, in California, $400 came to 1/2 of Cobra.

THIS HAS N0THING TO DO WITH IF THE YOUNG ADULT IS IN SCHOOL/COLLEGE NOR ANYTHING TO DO WITH ANY RULE MADE BY ANY INSURANCE COMPANY. FEHB says that your children are not covered by your FEHB policy after their 22nd birthday. That rule was set by our friends in Congress that now want to give free health care to everyone with no strings attached.

For our daughter it was at 22 yo plus a 30 day grace period for BCBS family plan.

That is the correct rule. But it is the rule for all plans that are approved for Fed Worker. It was set by BHO's pals not those "BCBS devils".

It has nothing to do if they are enrolled in college, graduating from college, or dropped out of high school when they were 14. Your kids can be covered until their 22nd birthday plus 30 days.

They (health plan) are required to allow you to take out a COBRA policy on the young adult but it's not cheap (like all Cobras) - $400/month sounds right.

Get a Blue Cross "BLUE" policy for them, it's around $100 a month. There 4 or 5 options - that's all about much deductibles you want to be responsible for.

One other point, if your kid is declared disabled before their 22nd birthday they are still covered afterwards.

Whatever, but I didn't realize that this rule only came into being in the last 10 months or so. Those "devils" at BCBS had the same rule 2 years ago when we check.

EDIT: Actually the same rule applied to me 30 some years ago when I graduated from college. I remember my dad saying to me that I had to have my own insurance at age 22 also, cause it was to expensive to carry me after that. Those dang Devils at BCBS.
