CNBC question

Okay, I've searched everywhere I can think of and can't seem to find an answer. What in the blazes does it mean when CNBC turns their ticker at the top of the screen orange? I've seen it when something like gold makes a big rally and sometimes when the Dow or S&P does really well. Today all broad markets are orange but there doesn't seem to be a reason why. Some are even down. What gives?

The orange may mean that the index hit a yearly low on the intra day basis.

Powershares ETF symbols, which trade along the lower band of the ticker, are highlighted in orange.

Somehow I don't think I gave you the answer you were looking for. You said top of screen and my answer refers to bottom of screen.

That sounds plausible, but it doesn't explain why gold is on a tear and is shown in orange as well. Hmmmm...
