I am out of town right now and have not watched the back 9 of the Open. I have it recorded and will watch it Monday and then post the winners. Don't tell me. :shhh:

I go to the Phoenix Open. Always enjoy it. I got to see Phil Mickelson and lots of other pros last year tee off on 15. It's amazing to see how different they all swing, but man are they accurate and powerful. Simply amazing.

the closest i ever got to a professional golfer was Jay Don Blake, he was about 10 years ahead of me, a local hero. i learned to golf on that little 9-hole municipal golf course, we would ride our bikes down diagonal street, 7 or 8 yardsale clubs clanging away in the frayed yardsale bag slung over our shoulders and a few dollars from mowing lawns in our pockets. they used to let kids play for free after 12 noon in the summer because who else is dumb enough to walk a golf course in 100+ heat? we would have orange crush in a glass full of ice at the clubhouse when we finished, ahh good times. the best shot of my life and my first birdie came on the 2nd hole of that course, with a 5-iron. i hit that thing so hard and true, one bounce and roll up on the green, got every inch out of that club that day, knew it as soon as i hit it and watched it fly, and putted in for birdie. suhweeet! but we did not have that word back then (i think at the time the term was "f'n a right!"). sometimes we would see Jay Don out hitting, you just stayed out of his way, he was important and going somewhere. so after that shot, later i eagled the par five on that course too a different time but it was a fluke and not near the perfect shot for birdie on hole 2. i had dreams for a while that i could be good at that, then i got distracted by girls and smokes and beer and stuff. now i am trying to tame a callaway xr 5-iron, we are still having some issues.

for a fun, cheap course i would say you should go play this one if you are in the area. yes there are much nicer full 18-hole courses in the area, but none have some of my old playboy magazines stashed up in the rocks.

i am in.

unrelated note: has anybody actually went and spent a day at a championship event on the course and walked around and followed the action in person? i wonder what that would be like.
