bmneveu's Account Talk

Looks like QE talks are on the table again which is supposedly why the market rebounded towards the end. I still have my TZA as well...looking for a good time to dump them.

You are assuming that the market will continue to go up... right?

Well I'm definitely concerned. The markets have been going up on their own without QE help...if QE does come I imagine they will go up even more in a short burst. I have no clue, but I just don't want to continue losing money on my TZA shares that's for sure lol.

You don't lose until you sell...

I guess if you think the market will continue to go up, figure out the loss you are willing to take and set your stop.

Hey I'm the one that said you don't lose until you sell! lol I'm looking for a good time to dump them once I get back to at least where I bought in at which could take a day or two of small drops. I'm not down that much...I would just rather be in cash at this time than invested on either end. If the movement upwards continues you just never know when it will stop...it could be the end of the year before I saw my TZA shares get back to where I bought them and that is all of that money tied up doing nothing but losing more. If I sold for a small lost and reinvested in TNA (thinking the market would go up) I could end up making back what I lost and then some. I think you misunderstood me when I said I want to dump them...I'm wanting to dump them to break even or a slight gain...not at a loss.

Nope, I understood. I was just trying to say that if you really think the market is going to continue going up, then take action. Sounds like you are doing just that, but if you try to wait for a dip to sell the TZA and buy the TNA, just make sure you really, really think the market will not continue going down... ;)

I am mostly short, with a small hedge long. I expect to sell the long (in the money) soon, and let the shorts do their thing...

I'm still holding on...just getting worried especially with J's system going 50% cash.

To me, that's only as far as the IRS is concerned (since there is no gain or loss until you sell). I think realistically your current account balance tells you if you have a gain or a loss.

If someone bought 1000 shares of Facebook at the $38 IPO price, they have a $19,000 loss on their hands whether they want to admit it or not. :) But yes, the IRS won't recognize the loss until they sell it.

I think you'll see "a day or two of small drops". I think the market will sell off a little bit going into the weekend. The last two weeks being up, were due for a down week, although it might only be slightly. IMHO

Today's trend appears to be sloping down. Since I'm short, I'm hoping we don't give it back in the last hour today. Also nice to see F fund up again after such a huge day yesterday for it.

Sold TZA @ 17.00 and bought TNA @ 55.65. Still F, though I may have changed that too if I had gotten the chance to this morning

IFT 50F 30S 20I... Staying a little diverse due to uncertainty but I want to be at least partially invested going into the new month. We'll see how this works out...

I was about to pull the trigger to get out of the G fund, but with seeing how many people are exiting and also the news saying the Fed probably isn't going to offer anything new this Friday. I think the market will go down if nothing continues to happen because I think that is what is holding it up right now. Honestly regardless of where you are invested right now it seems like it is flat. I wish I would have sold my TZA shares last week, but I'm still holding them...I really want to get back what I paid which was like 17.51 or so if I remember correctly...might take some time, but we will see.

I took on a fairly risky trade today by jumping back into equities. We'll see about that soon enough. I personally don't think that the Street expects QE3. I mean with prices this close to all time highs? No way. I do think some investors are clinging to the notion though. Prices have made their way back up recently in the absence of Euro bulls**t, so we may be due for another round of that soon.

good luck man, i'm also hoping for upward movement, but bouncing off the 20day in the wrong direction wasn't a good sign for me

on the bright side, the market is getting close to oversold territory, there's room for a run up

Well the market looks flat today but F and S grabbed some decent gains (as of 3:55pm EST). TNA is also up 1.5% on the day. I guess the market wants to stay flat till jackson hole?

JTrader gave a half sell signal this afternoon, and I did just that. Sold half my TNA @ 57.34, bringing my trading account up to 42% YTD. I would love to hit the nice round number of 50% for 2012, but I'll be deploying for nearly the remainder starting in a few weeks so we'll see. Also hate parking the TSP in G for so long
