Blueroadster's Account Talk

Bquat...Thanks. I follow your thread every day and appreciate your commentary, thoughts, and charts. For the most part, I am still in learning mode (i.e., wet behind the ears) and am trying to learn the lingo, chart analysis, and investment perspectives as best as I can. I've made several boneheaded decisions so far this year that has impacted my overall account performance, but in the grand scheme of things I'm happy with my return so far. :)

Thanks. I hope my commentarys don't confuse you. This year my guesses have been off. That's why I mention my tracker position and have a disclamer in my signature. I try to give unbias charts and give a heads up on what may happen. If I have two oppisite charts on wthat may happen I been known lately to pick the wrong one. We are all learning. It's always a learning process.

As an update to my account thread, my Excel file has evolved quite a bit. It now includes a rolling stock price chart on the top that displays price changes from 02 June 2003 to date. A one year sliding window is also incorporated on the chart where I can rewind into the past or fast forward to the present. It is also used to prime/range bound all of the other technical overlay and indicator charts displayed. Current overlays include:

  1. Ichimoku Clouds
  2. Bollinger Bands
  3. EMA
  4. ENV
  5. SMA
Current indicators include:

  1. ADL
  2. ADX
  3. Aroon
  4. Aroon Oscillator
  5. ATR
  6. %B
  7. BB Width
  8. CCI
  9. ChiOsc
  10. CMF
  11. COPP
  12. KST
  13. MACD
  14. MFI
  15. OBV
  16. PMO
  17. PPO
  18. PVO
  19. RoC
  20. RSI
  21. Special K
  22. STO (Fast)
  23. STO (Full)
  24. STO(Slow)
  25. StochRSI
  26. TRIX
  27. TSI
  28. ULT
  29. VTX
  30. Williams %R
Any ticker symbol can be graphed so long as historical quote data is available to import. Once imported, technical overlay and indicator parameters can then be individually modified (input validation also enforced) and displayed on the fly. No macros were used in the Excel file and without imported historical quote data, the file size sitting at a paltry 1.23MB in size.

I'm presently invested 20/S and 80/I. I used EFA as the ticker symbol to download historical quote data for importing. The resulting charts generated using default parameters for each technical overlay and indicator can be seen in this PDF file that has incorporated today's closing quote data. PDF was used to preserve the crispness of each chart displayed which can be seen if you open the file in Acrobat and zoom in for example on the Ichimoku Cloud to get a better look at each daily candlestick.

I just noticed the time lag from 10/2012 to today. Have you been away, or just don't post much to your own account talk (like me!)? Anyway, when you answer me , it will be your 100th post. So...premature congratulation!!

Here are today's charts:

^GSPC
AGG
EFA

Does anyone know of a site where one could view/download historical quotes for an S fund equivalent ticker symbol? Yahoo does not provide historical quotes for ^DWCPF or ^W4500? I need open, high, low, close, and volume data on a daily basis going back preferably to 02 June 2003.

Added the following technical indicators:

  1. NVI
  2. PVI
  3. QStick
  4. UI
Here is the updated file incorporating today's closing values using EFA as the input ticker symbol. With 34 technical indicators, interpretation of the results and usefulness of what each offers can seem overwhelming due to too many gauges presently sitting on the dashboard. On the to-do-list is to better organize, rack and stack them.

It's been a while since I updated my own account thread...

I finally got off my lazy duff, removed my personal transactions and added some dummy transaction data so I could share my workbook with others. I spent a long time putting together all of the worksheets, formulas, etc. and made sure that everything is calculated properly without using named ranges, macros, etc. It's saved as an Excel binary file, does web queries for ticker price data, has almost 40 technical indicators where variables for each can be manipulated while graphics are updated on the fly, has a one year sliding window range for technical indicators and does not have a lot of fluff/overhead. The file itself is ~3MB so it is not that large however, if the share price data was extracted and referenced from a database, then the file size would be much smaller.

Here is a link to a PDF showing the technical indicators worksheet that displays the action of EFA up to today's closing prices.

Here is a link to download the TSP Tracker Excel binary file itself. For the worksheets, green tabs never need updating, yellow tabs require updating yearly and red tabs require updating whenever there is a change/update needed (e.g., new closing prices or transactions made). Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions.

Not a problem...Happy to share. Let me know if you have any questions about the worksheets or formulas. I'd also be interested in suggestions. One thing I have not figured out is how to adjust the scaling on some of the charts to adjust automatically without the use of macros. When the align is set to auto, it seems to zoom too far out on the charts.
