Hello from the State of WA! Finally decided to join the Forum after the past two years. FERS with 21 Years + And have quite a bit of $$$ in the TSP; every percent move in C, S, or I is significant for me. I've probably been too conservative~you know the saying easy come-easy go. But if you snooze you loose too. Why does it have too be this hard? One thing I really have appreciated about this site is the Yahoo Tracker links to the funds at the bottom of the main page and on the Market Comment Page!

Welcome! you're on the downhill slide...make sure you check in on the ebb tracker and watch the 350Z discussions in the "I" fund. Goodluck!

Welcome to our forums. You can join the Automated Tracker once you have 10 posts. Read the Automated Tracker Rules in my signature. Its still in testing by our members, but its working and tracking member fund transfers and allocations. Click Members Ranking to see the current rankings. This tracker has been avialable since August 31st. We have a mature WebTracker that members have been using for the past few years. It requires 25 posts to join, but we expect it will be retired by end of year. Then the Automated Tracker will take over all TSP returns tracking.

Welcome from a buy and holder - good to see you've taken the time to learn before you churn. I'll be watching to see how you maneuver that power account. GL.

With Caution Birchtree...maneuver with caution...the larger the account every percent change is more money than I make in a week!

Exactly my point - a 5% gain for you is the same in dollars terms as a 25% gain for Griffin. Bunny hoppers like to assume more risk because they don't have that much at risk. That's a difficult concept for some to comprehend.

BT--> Has some what of a point! The closer U get to retirement the more the "risk vs rewards" comes into play, aka the L-funds!!!!

To follow a particular "system" has to be self managed. Trader Fred, Rev. Shark, Ebb, TSPTalk, etal are not in charge of my TSP-funds, I am!

This is what it's all about!

Spaf and I are probably essentially the same age - I turned 60 this year. However, Harvey is more capital preservation oriented. I was 100% C fund all last year and taking into account my continous DCAing and market fund appreciation I had a 21% gain which came to $96K in dollar terms. I'm shooting for a $125K appreciation this year including DCAing. I take more leveraged risk because I recently acquired the holy grail and my wife has her defined contribution plan in mutual funds. Risk in my opinion has nothing to do with age - simply learn before you churn and then be prepared to turn it on. You have a superior advantage because you've done your time in grade and have the accumulated savings to really make it grow. I always say the first law of finance is that it takes money to make money - you've arrived. I probably won't be doing any DCAs next year - but I will be ready to do some serious pistol shooting - can't wait. I'd like to earn $200K if possible.
