The current avatar size is 100x100px. Here it is compared to 150x150 and 200x200...

I'm thinking 150x150 is doable and 200x200 may be too large. What do you think?

100X100, I'd hate to think what would be posted if it was bigger, cause it's almost football season and I know an avatar is going to show up soon with Pittsburgh colors (Rothensberger) that I may not be able to bear at 200X200.

I like 100x100 myself. I'm not a good enough artist for anything higher resolution.

Would it be possible to have an option between anyone of the three. More than likely I wouldn't go any larger than 150X150 but Birch's might look good at 200X200. If an avatar is not picked the default would be 100X100. I can think of a couple of avatar's that might look pretty sharp at 200X200. Tom's being one of them.
Another thought would be that you start out at 100X100 and after you hit so many posts (contributions) you have the option to take your avatar to 150X150. Once you get to another level of posts (contributions) you have the option to go to 200X200.
Moderators would have final say on size of the avatar depending on what's in the avatar. At 100X100 you might notice something but at 200X200 it would be, "Ah! NO!!!"
Just some thoughts.

If the max size is increased, you should be able to do any size fro 100 to 200 squared.

the current size takes up the same height as 6-8 lines of text. for those of us who compute almost exclusively by smartphone and like to view standard web version in landscape mode, that is precious vertical real estate.

also, avatars are like stop signs at the end of a familiar street, a quick glance confirms it is still there so i apply the brakes. i never take the time to scrutinize all the glorified details of the hi-res white letters on a red field. when you see an american flag do you often pause to count each and every star? besides, on this board and in life, i judge people on what they say not how they look.

less pictures, more talk.

...but at 200X200 it would be, "Ah! NO!!!".....
Now wouldn't nnuuts' be a sight to behold !!! :DI

It would be nice tho to not to have to pm some folks to ask just what their avatar is ,tho, since sometimes my magnifying glass just won't get me close enough!
