Deja vu. Didn't we go through this with AT&T already?

There are still dozens of carriers in the U.S. but we don't want to see them all gobbled up. It's kind of like having a single payer HC system. Like you said, it's not good for competition.

By the way, it's amazing how they (the phone industry) have been able to get us to accept phone bills costing hundreds of dollar a month. Remember when the only phone in your house cost like $15/month? We get a lot more for the money, of course, but where did everybody come up with that extra money?

And while we're at it, why is my gas bill at an all time high when the price of natural gas is about a third of what it was a few years ago?

I'll be totally with you...and against a free market single payer if it is in the form of one private, giant Humana insurance company. Their ultimately responsible to the share holder...not the customer. That means when there is a choice between increased care vs company profit...profit wins over coverage/care.

A gov't run single payer is removed from "responsibility to Wall St stock holders"...and is ultimately responsible to us...the consumer.

But that's for a different thread...damn you know how to get me started!

In the meantime...I'll be roaming around TSPTalk with my new phone...until ATT takes it away from me. (lol)

No, single payer healthcare will be responsible to the whims of politicians and the (in)efficiency of the government bureaucracy.

There's still competition in the cell phone industry, but it does bother that AT&T is the largest carrier once again. I'd still be with Sprint if they had the iPhone. The wife wanted it, so we switched to AT&T to get it.

Due to buyouts I went from Cellular One to Cingular (flunky) to ATT (bad service in my area)
Changed account to T-Mobile

ATT is getting rid of T-Mobile's pay per minute plans.

So the choice is: Pay through the nose for Verizon - best local service but your phone only works in the USA and selected other countries
Or back to ATT and get another monthly plan that costs more with more minutes than I need; flunky coverage in my area but at least the phone can work outside the US (just buy a sim card for the country you are in).

Bleah. Glad I didn't buy a smart phone.
