Arizona Immigration law

Renegotiate was a key word. Power is pretty involved. Seems like wishful thinking and posturing for self satisfaction. It will be interesting to see if Arizona really can withstand the pressure or will have to adjust. I hope they lead the rest of us and do not cave.
They could always do like the gas companies do when they want gas prices to go higher and take some of the generators offline for maintenance. Cut power to California and say they are maintaining their system and only have power for Arizona while maintenance is ongoing. ;)

OK- so let me get this right-

Arizona passes a law that California's Los Angeles doesn't like.

So Los Angeles annouces an economic boycott.

Arizona responds by cutting off Los Angeles's electricity.

Hmmm.... isn't that dandy.

Considering California companies and governments own a significant stake in the nuclear power plant, one of several power generation sources were talking about:

, Southern California Edison (15.8%),
PNM Resources (10.2%),
Southern California Public Power Authority (5.9%),
and the Los Angeles Dept. of Water & Power (5.7%)

Perhaps the power commissioner threatening to cut them off ought to ask the owners of the power generation equipment, and the owners of the transmission lines first.

Something tells me that could get interesting.

(and a darn good case for "Commerce Clause" intervention, I might add.)

There's been "near as that" potential war between those two states before-troops facing each other on banks of the Colorado River-water war, almost literally. About 100 years ago or so. I read about it in Cadillac Desert. Buster, that'd be a good read for you if you're really going to retire in AZ.

Heres hypocrisy in your face - Obama and Calderon

Obama, Calderon Blast Arizona Immigration Law During White House Visit Mexican President Felipe Calderon can hardly contain his revulsion and rage against Arizona’s SB 1070. He’s "deeply troubled" over a law he denounces as "discriminatory and racist," not to mention “a dire threat to the whole Hispanic-American population." This new Arizona law "opens the door to intolerance, hate, discrimination and abuse in law enforcement," sputters the Mexican President.

Indeed, this “threat to Hispanics” and these “abuses in law enforcement," have been ongoing for years.
The Associated Press carried a story where a Maria Elena Gonzalez, reported how female migrants were “forced to strip by abusive police officers, supposedly to search them, but the purpose is to sexually abuse them." Jose Ramos, 18, reported “that extortion by border police occurs at every stop on their migratory route. Until migrants are left penniless and begging for food.”
According to AP: “Others said they had seen migrants beaten to death by police, their bodies left near the railway tracks to make it look as if they had fallen from a train.
"If you're carrying any money, they take it from you," said Carlos Lopez. "Federal, state, local police--all of them shake you down. If you're on a bus, they pull you off and search your pockets, and if you have any money, they keep it all and say, get out of here.” Police shake down motorists on bogus traffic stops so regularly it is like going through a toll - money paid right there on the spot or your car gets impounded.
All of the above “hate” and “abuses in law enforcement” as reported by the Associated Press, befell Central American migrants who enter Mexico. (Excerpt) Read more at townhall.com

Yeah, and who started it? Mayor Lover Boy from El Lay? El Lay is upset b/c they know the effect of the AZ law...they are going to get a lot of AZs illegals which they dont want.

Yeah GO AZ!

All I can say is CA is broke and is going to Boycott Arizona for enforcing federal law. Pay back is hell, next will be water.:D I wonder what Arnold had to say about that? This is really funny to me!!

I think we should adopt the same immigration laws that Mexico has. Those that live in Glass Houses shouldn't throw stones!!

Boy the truth hurts doesnt it. the blind Followers of Zero must approve of how Mexico treats Ctn. Americans. Invaders out of Mexico oh the humanity.

We also have to remember that this is a border security problem. Terrorists are also coming across the border. Cali has a very similiar law, so why can't AZ have one to protect their citizens, without zero throwing out the race card? Hypocrasy again. "shaking head in disbelief"

EDIT: I also thought it was disgusting that the Mexican President was able to bad mouth AZ, while in the White House and our president agreed and did nothing to defend citizens in our country that just used their Constitutional Rights to vote and freely express their opinions. What does this say about what BO thinks about our COuntry and our rights? He's nothing but a socialist.

James, you are right, it is not going to happen. You stated it did happen, a minor oversight. You also referred to Mr. Pierce as the “power commissioner”. He is one of five members of the Arizona Corporate Commission. I do not believe Arizona has a “power commissioner”

Ownership, Fed regulations and binding contracts will prevent power from being cut off to California.

BTW the people serviced by Public Service of New Mexico (PNM) could not care less about this and are only glad that AZ serves as a buffer between them and CA.

The point is that if California wants to boycott any and all goods and services from Arizona, maybe they should think it through before speaking.

You refer to “the nuclear power plant” and I surmise you are speaking about Palo Verde. You left out the coal powered Navajo plant that Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has a 21% stake in. Though not in Arizona, Southern California Edison (SCE) owns almost half of the Four Corners plant in New Mexico. That power has to pass through Arizona transmission lines. That plant is also coal powered. Until a few years ago, SCE and LADWP owned a large part of the Mojave coal fired plant in Laughlin NV, 56% and 10%. They divested their interests when the EPA required better scrubbers to be installed due to pollution/visibility issues to the east. Wasn't worth the money to CA power companies since it didn't improve CA air quality.

California never has a problem sitting down at the table and eating more than their fair share but when its time to pass on the waste products from the feast, they almost always use the neighbor's out house.

Water, the Colorado river actually does pass through Arizona on it's way to the Lower Colorado dams, Hoover, Davis, Parker, Imperial and others I may be leaving out. I suppose the Central Arizona Project could start sucking more water from Lake Havasu and Arizona could use the excess to recharge ground water but it is not going to happen. Too many Fed agreements/laws etc. It would be logistically impossible as well. Many people I know who have boats on Havasu make a point of navigating to the Whitsett intake of the Colorada River Aqeduct to relieve themselves. They tell me there is always a crowd of AZ registered boats there for the same reason. Fear not, there is always a designated pilot who remains sober. The uric acid may actually improve the Ph as Havasu water is pretty alkaline.

I would not have written this and would have let it lie if not for one bartender in one hotel in a Chicago suburb. He kept bringing it up and got some discussions going amongst four Arizonans, three San Diego-ans and some poor bystanders from mostly the eastern US. The headline in a Chicago newspaper early in the week was about a sports team that had worked hard earning the money to go to a tournament in AZ but the school board canceled the trip because of the AZ bill. It is not even a law yet. The school board acted in spite of most of the parents objecting to canceling the trip.

This bartender could/would not answer two questions. “If you get stopped here and have no ID will you be detained?” “Why is the school board so adamant about canceling the trip, are they protecting a team member?” His answer was to set up another round “on the house” which he later tried to charge us for.

So, why are California politicians enacting a boycott over legislation in Arizona that is not a law yet while ignoring that their own CA Penal Code Sec. 834 b which has been a law for nine years? Why are they only boycotting AZ products that are convenient?

This is why this country is having problems and probably wont be around in a 100 years. We are slowly being invaded and drained of our resources which is legally allowed and nobody wants to stop it becuase nobody wants to be deemed racist. Am I racist? no Do i think we are being invaded? yes. Call me what you want but a country that doesn't protect it's borders is doomed. Do I think we should not allow anybody else in our country? no. We should let anybody who honestly seeks a better life to become citizens.... But I guess i have no choice but to be called racist.

Racism will always exist till there are no races. Until the humans of this planet have inter-bred till there is only one race there will be racism. Seriously.

In my opinion that shows how "young" our planet really is as far as evolution. I believe that we are looking at a mass extinction of humans. Not a total extinction but the majority will die and it will probably be brought on by humans. Once that happens the laws on the books and the currencies we use will hold no weight. All we'll have then are survival and procreation. Presto! No more racism.

I know there are factors involved like the ability to travel what to us are great distances (from continent to continent) in order to inter-breed and in our current state of technological evolution that travel requires fossil fuels.

Wait a minute...wheres that gulf oil spill thread?

Don't mind me. I get this way on Sunday morning... :D

Congressman Slams Outrage Of Calderon Lecture On Immigration 210510top

Following Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s attack on the second amendment and his lecturing on American immigration policy, Congressman Tom McClintock described Calderon’s behavior as an “outrage” during a speech on the House floor yesterday, pointing out that America treats immigrants far better than the brutal way they are dealt with in Mexico.

During a series of speeches, including one in front of Congress, Calderon attacked Arizona’s decision to enforce its immigration policy while also calling upon lawmakers to re-enact the assault weapons ban in a bid to disarm the American people as they are integrated into the North American Union system.

President Obama treasonously supported Calderon’s message by alarmingly proclaiming, “We are not defined by our borders,” during a speech on the White House lawn.

McClintock later reacted by labeling Calderon’s rhetoric an “outrage” and slammed the Mexican President for holding American sovereignty in contempt while Democrats in Congress cheered him on.

McClintock said Calderon should, “Abide by the fundamental rules of diplomacy between civilized nations not to meddle in each other’s domestic debates.”

“Unlike Mexico’s immigration law — which is brutally exclusionary — the purpose of America’s law is not to keep people out. It is to assure that as people come to the United States, they do so with the intention of becoming Americans and of raising their children as Americans. Unlike Mexico, our nation embraces immigration and what makes that possible is assimilation,” said McClintock.

The Congressman pointed out that immigration has been used not to assimilate newcomers as American citizens, but to cause division amongst racial and ethnic lines while seeking to “elevate devotion to foreign ideologies and traditions, while at the same time denigrating American culture, American values and American founding principles.”

McClintock quoted the following words from President Teddy Roosevelt, which perfectly illustrate how the original boundaries of immigration policy have been completely violated, with illegal immigrants now seeing themselves as radicalized Mexicans who subscribe to a racist liberation theology, not assimilated Americans who want to integrate with their neighbors.

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

However, the federal government and local authorities have not only allowed illegal immigrants to fly the Mexican flag on public property while spending millions of dollars every year translating official documents into Spanish, but they have also sat back as illegals engage in provocations by claiming that the U.S. is Mexico while tearing down American flags, as was highlighted by the recent case in Morgan Hill California, where students were kicked off campus and disciplined for the crime of wearing T-shirts which featured American flags.

Moreover, in schools such as New Hampshire Estates Elementary School, we see children admitting their parents are illegal aliens while dancing around a Mexican flag with the First Lady, Michelle Obama.

These two examples alone, and there are a myriad of others, clearly show that Teddy Roosevelt’s caution to immigrants entering the U.S., that there is only room for one flag and one language, has been completely disregarded as hordes of immigrants pumped up with racist La Raza doctrines of radical liberation theology pour into the U.S. and claim it to be Mexico.

I don't think that what Calderon said is as disgraceful as the reactions from the Democrats applauding his speech and our President agreeing with Calderon. Don't make the Hispanics mad they won't vote Democratic, it's as simple as that. What the hell is wrong with those people?
I really like this McClintock fellow!!!

Why would DHS warn Texas to be on the lookout for terrorists? I thought this administration believes the only people who cross the border illegally are just those people looking to have a better life.

Somali terrorist threat raises questions on Texas border security

A recent Homeland Security Alert distributed to Houston Police and Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies is asking local authorities to look out for Mohamed Ali, a man suspected of having ties with the Somali terrorist group Al- Shabaab.

Now, he is learning what he fled in Somalia may be following him here. A federal indictment issued this month in San Antonio accuses a Somali citizen smuggling hundreds of people into the U.S, including some with ties to an Al-Shabaab linked terrorist group.

Excellent post CB !!

Just the thought of asking or expecting 'Police' and 'Local Authorities' to 'uphold the law' -- when dealing with illegals...

Gives me visions...

of Politicians rising against them; bringing foreign Leaders in to voice their objections and anger (and politely stand arm in arm with them); seeing huge crowds waving banners and shouting in protest and disgust from many Nations outside our borders -- outraged that we're taking the 'illegal immigration' as a 'serious issue'; ....

...but wait .. my VISIONS are still coming .... I'm seeing huge Cities in the U.S. of A. boycotting againt these people and going out of their way to make them miserable and take the longstanding businesss and spirit of co-operation that has gone on for years and throwing it down the drain. All because some political hotshot sees this as an opportunity to be 'more popular' - so who cares about the people in general -- as long as my own network see me as a hero.
