Hey all -

Did anyone else notice that last week's TSP purchase was made a week late? Anyone know why this was? Normally, my bi-weekly deposit is made on the Monday prior to payday (which would have been 3 Sept, in this case). I realize that was a holiday, but in that case in the past, the deposit was accelerated, and made on the Friday prior (in this case, 31 Aug). Worst case scenario, it clears on 4 Sep, the next business day.

However, mine didn't clear until 7 Sep, the Friday AFTER. Did this happen to anyone else, and does anyone know WHY it happened. I'm confused because this delay shorted me a bunch of shares. For example, the S Fund should have been purchased at $23.07/share; instead, it was purchased at $23.87/share. That's a large difference.

Any suggestions as to why this happened?

According to my account on tsp.gov, my contributions were on 8/29 and 9/12. Are you on 26 pay periods?

I am DOD civilian, 26 pay periods and my contributions were also deposited on Friday, 9/7. I too was wondering why?

Mine went in as scheduled, the day before my pay days (in this case on 8/16 and 8/30). I expect another one to go in at today's close since tomorrow is pay day.

I'm on 26 PDs and my contributions usually post on Tuesday of the PD week. This time it didn't post until Thursday. Probably just behind due to the holiday.

I had a notice that the pay process was delayed due to the hurricane in New Orleans, which is where the processing center is located.

Wow, my TSP transactions hit on my PD. This looks like you get paid before you get paid? I wonder what accounting magic works this process?

I've heard several explanations for this. When they converted to paying us electronically years ago they direct deposited into your financial institution on Monday before your paydate (Thursday) of payday week. Technically the financial institutions are supposed to hold your money i.e.not allow you access until your actual paydate (Thursday). As a practical matter it is much easier for the financial institutions to just roll the direct deposits into our accounts on the day they come in (usually Monday) and allow checks to be cleared against them immediately. Most follow this procedure. As far as the TSP contributions every agency seems to post it into the TSP accounts on a different date. Don't really understand why.

Thanks for all the replies, all. I guess it's just one of those "roll with the punches" kind of things... It sounds like we're on all kind of different deposit schedules... Again, thanks for the replies.

My TSP contribution always goes in on the Thursday prior to payday (8/2, 8/16, 8/30, 9/13). Never heard of any of the issues you guys are having.
