Well I can tell you my parents and friends were shocked I went to college and stayed in school, given that high school was one big party and I was quite rebellious! To my amazement ..

I worked throughout school, received Pell grants for tuition, but still obtained loans that took 10 years to payoff. At times, I thought loans were a mistake but now I don't. Loans made life easier, and knowing I had to pay off loans meant I had no choice but to stick with school until the end! So, it was well worth it. The letters came later and have helped.

Hated the two years of calculus, physics, and the first minute onward of assembler.

Additional education has been a bunch of extension classes at UCSD, computer language courses at Mesa College, tax preparation courses at City College, and for some reason a real fun Jewish history course via adult education. I am planning on getting the certifications for financial planning.

And, by the way Burro, my two favorite fields have always been architecture and computer programming. Kinda odd, but about a decade ago I took a Myers-Briggs test and I still strongly favor architecture and computer programming. An oddity in my life was that Cal Poly San Louis Obispo denied me in their architecture program with what they tried to pass off as a hand written letter - but it had underlines with computer typed numbers in it. UC Santa Barbara accepted me as a commuter. Too funny...

there is an old saying in architecture studios, the a students become alcoholics and the b students end up working for the c students. so maybe you lucked out on the whole san luis obispo thing there cuz. life is a funny thing.

NASA, that brings back memories of a life changing event. Ever think there must have been something odd about the lottery number matching the day of the month?:suspicious:

No CAP for me, same length tech school but no pocket rocket for me. Common question asked at the time was "what the h3ll are those guys going to do when they get out?". Guess we know that now. :laugh:

At the time I never gave it a thought on how or why my number was so low. Had friends in HS that had high draft numbers and joined (Marines). Only one friend killed in Nam. Matter of fact he was the only one from our graduating class KIA. The pocket rocket was pretty cool and not everyone could say the worked for SAC.

It's funny how one decision can be a life changer. I came this close to reenlisting. They liked my work and I was promised my 4th stripe before years 4-5. Decided not to re-up. Got accepted to the Air Force Academy and at the last minute changed my mind not to take the offer. Either one of those choices would have kept me working for NASA when I did and eventually meeting my wife. I sure can't see what direction either one of those choices would have led me but I'm not unhappy with the direction I have taken. No regrets and no what if's.
