I think you have to be very careful when you read the Washington Times. Its not exactly the most credible newspaper in the world

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Times

Alleged news bias
According to the Columbia Journalism Review, "Because of its history of a seemingly ideological approach to the news, the paper has always faced questions about its credibility."[19] Salon.com[20][21] and The Daily Howler[22][23][24][25] have published analyses of what they believe are serious factual errors and examples of bias in the paper's news coverage. Conservative-turned-liberal writer David Brock, who worked for the Times' sister publication Insight, said in his book Blinded by the Right that the news writers at the Times were encouraged and rewarded for giving news stories a conservative slant. In Right-Wing Media and How It Corrupts Democracy Brock wrote "the [Washington Times] was governed by a calculatedly unfair political bias and that its journalistic ethics were close to nil."[26]

It's basically the same article that FedSmith posted on his site.

You have to be very careful when you read wikipedia, anybody can write anything there.

Alright- time out- If you'd like to go to politcal slant commentary mode, there is always the "lounge" to do that in. Please take such discussions off the floor here and into the cloakrooms of the Lounge.

Now- back to business:

As to the TSP possibly looking at trying to prevent shifting- let's get real here.

There are over 2.7 MILLION TSP participants. If 35,000 moved money out of "I" in march after a nice runup. That's LESS THAN 2% of TSP'ers, for crying out loud. That's nothing. And the costs are next to nill. Overall still less than a full basis point for expenses! That's the lowest it's been in the ENTIRE EXISTENCE of the TSP.

I think we need to be on-guard and ready to fight back if anyone tries to slow our options there.

Now, that said- let's take a REAL look at where we are today.

"I" closed down. Japan is not yet trading- what do YOU think?

Are the foreign markets going to hit the bricks tonight, or do you think an Asian ralley will change the direction and set us higher in the next couple days?

Your thoughts on the "I" fund????

Hey nnuut, I thought you were under the influence all the time?
:D
Kinda straight dope!!

ECB tipped to hold interest rates

The European Central Bank (ECB) is expected to keep interest rates on hold on Thursday, as jitters continue to unsettle markets worldwide.
Until the global turmoil, prompted by woes in the US housing market, rates had been tipped to rise from 4% to 4.25% for countries using the euro.
However analysts are expecting the ECB to adopt a wait-and-see policy as witnessed elsewhere around the world. Central banks of Brazil, Australia and Canada froze their rates this week. And the Bank of England is expected to hold its interest rate at 5.75%.

350z, I may have to borrow your Avitar after today>..lol....:)

No problem..:D

I have a very good reason having that Avatar. If I try to explain it, folks here would probably label me as a "gloom and doom bear". I guess it's human nature to want to hear good, positive thoughts. Although, good, positive thoughts will get you raped in a bear market.:)

This morning after the housing news, I noticed a change in sentiment in the currency market. And tonight, the Nikkei doesn't appear to be following the Yen. I don't what it means yet, but I don't like it.

The Fed's beige book was pretty much as disappointing as Bernake's speech. Both events failed to confirm a Fed cut on Sept. 18. So far, we have not seen any economic news to allow Bernake to cut. Even if Friday's job number comes in at 60K, it would still not be enough for the Fed. They usually don't cut until job numbers go negative. As for the credit crunch, Bernake stated in his speech that a cut in the Feds fund rate, might not help the problem. Of course not, junk(MBS) will still be junk.

And now this....

Fed says tight credit hurts housing and little else

Nikkei 300 only down 0.80% now.

Wow! Both the Nikkei and the Yen did a nice "V" turn around. The US futures are also up. Not sure what's going on. I didn't see any news. Perhaps the Feds are going to cut the discount window rate again and somebody leaked it out again?:D Or it might just be manipulation by the BOJ. They have been known to do this.

Dang, I was afraid of this -- nobody reads my commentary! Nimrod1193, maybe you need to refresh the page (F5). I explained it all on today's commentary. :)

You commentary is being read by many even some who don't participate in our forum. Keep up the great work EBB.

Bloomberg stated tonight that money is being deverted to overseas markets because the U.S is sliding into a recession.
