2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Then there are those who are complaining about their liberties being taken away due to stay at home orders. Also have seen comments about, we are disrespecting those who fought and died to provide us with the liberties we enjoy. What is not mentioned is, if your behavior, actions, under the guise of liberty could threaten my, or my family's life, so be it.

It's a little like a drunk making the choice to drive.

Well what makes that comparison (to last years flu season) basically worthless, is we do NOT have any large-scale shutdowns in place for the regular flu.
A valid comparison would be...How many flu deaths in 2018 if the US enacted the same "total shutdown" procedures as we have now, at the start of the 2018 flu season?

Or...since COVID-19 is as much or even more contagious as the regular flu, how many deaths would we have, if we had the "No Lock-down" policies of 2018?
Given the current US Death rate from COVID is near 4.0%, and the regular flu near 0.1%, deaths statistically would rise to over 3.2 Million....and actually would likely be much higher because that many more cases would quickly overwhelm our hospitals, meaning a certain percentage of those with other treatable diseases would also die.

I've seen many of those comments also.
My response to them is that in wartime, or emergencies when Martial Law is declared, ones "Liberties" are not unlimited.
The Constitution is a broad based guide and does NOT address short term emergencies.
We do have unalienable rights to "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness", but what leaders of all sides (right and left) have agreed, is during emergencies, we do not have the "Liberty" to do significant harm, or death to others.
Or in this case, do we have the Liberty to make this pandemic worse, cause tens or hundreds of thousands of more deaths, and ruin the economy and our way of life, for much longer than it otherwise would be.

Re: 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

never occurred to me about the class action lawsuits....

Illinois has been under a shelter in place order since mid march yet the number of cases keeps rising. It is clear (to me anyway) that this isn't going away until there is a vaccine or therapeutic meds....

will we see a 100% retracement to previous highs from this dead cat bounce? it seems like all the Fibonacci resistance lines have been passed or met?

there will be another virus attack in the winter of '20-'21. no vaccines will be available and basically no cure is available.
Well over 200 virus strains are implicated in causing the common cold, with rhinoviruses being the most common.

the point is there are hundreds of viruses that they cannot make a vaccine for. HIV is one which fauci and brix worked on for decades, they made millions in research money, caused a panic etc.
now a virus is throwing the USC out the window with black boots on the street, for deaths that are no more than the common flu.

Re: 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Thanks to the stay at home orders that have been enacted.

zero proof to that. same type of people with underlying health conditions are the same type that die from the flu and C19.

Re: 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Common sense. If as many people have died, with isolation...

As for the accusation that the CDC is over-reporting, thanks for the laugh. If anything, cases and deaths have been under-reported due to lack of testing.

Re: 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

You both make great arguments. I can go either way on a given day. But, what really gets to me is that I have a 69 year old wife with a couple of underlying issues and "they" say that this virus is not at all like the regualr flu when it makes it's home in the perfect host. I think that's what gets to a lot of us. We're told that this one is much more dangerous than the run of the mill flu.

I'm doing everything I can do to keep from bringing it into my home.

yes it causes pneumonia which is dangerous for anybody who has underlying conditions. the flu can cause pneumonia for the same type of person.

laughing? your lack of knowledge of the CDC instructions for documenting any death right now as caused by C19 is very disturbing. do some research before u laugh too hard and hurt yourself. to help u out there is a State Senator in a new interview who is also a doctor bringing this up and stating how wrong it is.

Article from 31 March 2020, As NYC Nears 1,000 COVID-19 Deaths, How Does Pandemic Compare to Typical Flu Season?

Two quotes:

New York had 4,749 deaths as a result of influenza and pneumonia in 2018, according to the Centers for Disease Control (statistics for 2019 were not available).

If divided equally over the course of a year, slightly under 400 New Yorkers died each month in 2018 from the flu or pneumonia, around 167 of whom were in the city. It is consistently one of the top five causes of death in the state and NYC.

As of yesterday's numbers for COVID-19, New York has had a total of 17,131 deaths so far and added 1,025 more in one day. For the flu, we were not under stay at home and other restrictions like we are now. To me, comparing the flu to COVID-19 is an apple to orange comparison. What we are having to deal with now is much more contagious.

Some conspiracy theorists want you to believe that the CDC is over-reporting Covid-19 cases/deaths. Meanwhile, in reality: China’s official death toll from the coronavirus pandemic jumped sharply Friday as the hardest-hit city of Wuhan announced a major revision that added nearly 1,300 fatalities.

I saw the same news reports. But, I believe, as my grandfather did, that communists are lying devils.

Will do. I also will not sit idly by when fringe thinkers jeopardize the health and welfare of the general population. The only reason this virus hasn't killed hundreds of thousands of Americans is because of the stay at home orders that have been ordered.

Let's keep it civil, folks.

I agree. One reason for the higher death toll is because of the Chinese trying to cover up the virus. Without the actions we have taken, the results would be far worse than the flu.

Just keep ad hominem attacks out of the conversation. We can defend a particular position without attacking the character of another. One such example in this conversation is, "Your lack of knowledge..." That's an attack, and things can get quite personal after such an attack. That's why I stepped in when I did. Also, keep in mind that this conversation is occuring on DreamboatAnnie's Account Talk. Let's not hi-jack it.
