..so JJ what you're saying is, if FERS people don't get one, no one should???..Whatever..:D

the ridiculousness of this .1% is it ain't worth the paper it's written on..so why even bother...costs more to process than the benifit it would provide...Hell, for that matter give it to the FERS folks:rolleyes:

UPDATE:

COLA Count Trails in Homestretch

Posted: Wednesday, September 22, 2010

With just one month to go, the count toward the January 2011 federal retiree COLA remains negative at -0.6 percent, following an increase of 0.1 percentage points in August in the inflation index used to set that adjustment, a further indication that no COLA will be paid. None of the monthly results in the count so far have exceeded 0.5 percent. Retirees received no COLA earlier this year because the count toward that adjustment also was negative; benefits are frozen but not reduced in that situation. For the same reason, it is unlikely that Social Security beneficiaries or military retirees will receive a COLA.

Buster,

There is NO inflation - thus, no 'Cost of Living Adjustment'. In fact, we will probably get a second year of mild deflation when things are all done.

And, FERS retirees also get a COLA on their pension benefits. FERS pension benefits are much smaller than CSRS pensions - but, they are still there.

Finally, what we all must be concerned about is politicians jiggering the computations used to generate Federal pensions. They can jigger the equations directly or, like President Clinton, tax pensions higher. They can't directly touch an individuals TSP account (unlike the pension), but they can tax the distributions more heavily. Hello Roth!!!

Boghie, you are exactly right on all counts. Some make light of the reduced FERS COLA but when cumulative effect is considered, the difference over a retired life can be more than significant.

And regarding your statement about being concerned about politicians messing with computations, here's another way we need to be concerned about politicians. This is from a 0/27/10 article in Fedsmith.com.

http://www.fedsmith.com/article/2566/do-you-trust-congress-your-tsp-investment.html

"...Most FedSmith readers are active or retired federal employees. Based on your knowledge of how the government works, can you imagine Congress watching a pot of $252 billion dollars (and growing) sitting within the federal system and not touching that money? All Congress has to do is to put together a rationale as to how and why Congress can improve the system, convince the other Congressional representatives as to why a new plan for the TSP would be better than letting this money continue to grow in its present form, and pass a law to put these hundreds of billion dollars to a better use.

In fact, some Congressmen are already thinking about how to do that. Perhaps more to the point, Congress has already started meddling with the TSP and, as the money pot grows, that meddling is likely to increase....

James Langevin (D-RI) ... has introduced a new bill called the 'Federal Employees Responsible Investment Act." It would require establishing a "Corporate Responsibility Stock Index Fund" for the TSP. You can read the bill here.

As often happens with new legislation, there are some good ideas in the bill. The rationale used for the bill will make it difficult for some in Congress to vote against the bill. And, in fact, it may pass in Congress.

If you are a TSP investor, watch this bill closely....As the pot of money in the TSP grows, Congress may not be able to resist the temptation to use it as it sees fit. Readers would do well to follow the progress of this bill in Congress. ..."

Maggie I had read a similar article where some people in congress were looking at all 401K plans with drool dripping off their lips. The thought being they could better manage it and then at retirement give you what they think you need. These people are worse than a teenager in a cell phone store. They see a pile of money somewhere and they want it cause they have already spent into debt what they collected from us in taxes. That's why with the upcoming elections we must all seriously look at who is running, where they have stood in the past on issues and not what they are saying now with their careers in jeopardy.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. = socialism = Obama

my gawd, please lay off the faux propaganda channel mindset of Obama and his socialist regime.
Do you want to live as in a 3rd world country?

If he's a socialist now, after dumping billions into capitalist financial institutions that screamed for socialist intervention and held our entire nation hostage to get bailed out, I can only imagine how wild the thoughts were when the headlines came out that China and India lead the world in scientific education and to compete we need to add an extra month of school.

Here's an example of socialism-
Burma plans crackdown on monks as election nears
Military authorities fear repeat of 2007 when monks led 'Saffron Uprising'

and communism, from the Fox "News" owner Murdoch's UK conglomerate:
China does news blackouts on Tibetan Monk deaths.

Look- here's the deal:
Our infrastructure is decaying. It costs money to fix.
Just look at China- what have they done with the Billions of dollars our country spent as we mortgaged our houses to buy products manufactured in Communist China.
They built 200 mph rail systems, built entire cities that are unpopulated, have state of the art manufacturing facilities that virtually no other country in the world can compete with- And- they still have money to throw around. Just not to their workers.
Now look around your house- see "made in China"? does that make you a communist sympathizer? Hmm? Right. About as much as Obama is a socialist.
You're right- the upcoming elections. We all must look and seriously consider who is running, and who is actually funding their campaigns.
And just as importantly, we must work to decipher what is propaganda and what is fact coming out of our now consolidated media. http://www.mediaowners.com/
This is the season of deception.
The stage was set by the Citizen's United ruling of unfettered campaign contributions that have no legal obligations of disclosure.

This is not good for America, no matter which political affiliation you identify with.

crws, thanks for trying to bring reality to the situation. We'll see if it takes. And, FWIW, I thought the beginning and end rant signals were hilarious. Thanks for starting my day with a smile!

That sure has a lot to do with the topic of this thread. :toung: How about if you start an "I Hate Obama" thread somewhere else on the MB so that you and yours can launch the hysterical tirades where the rest of us don't have to read them.

'Preciate it. Thanks. :)
Maggie
My thread and anyone can post whatever the hell they want..we'll even entertain the moronic whinings of psychotic delusional liberals with identity issues, but I got a better idea for ya....just don't log on.

Psychotic? Delusional? And what did I do to deserve being told not to log on? :( Interesting stance from someone who did what you did to me. This isn't the Lounge, sweetie.

Love ya' :D

Al least Maggie was under Doctor's care and hospitalized when she was medicated to incomprehension. Buster! LOL

CRWS,

I'll vote for 'em all:p

They ain't done any real damage yet:nuts:

(For some reason I couldn't 'quote' your photos. Oh, well...)

To All,

While I wouldn't actually vote for all of the individuals in CRWS' photos, it should be absolutely clear that none of them would make a grab - direct or indirect - at my retirement assets.

For example, I don't think Sharron Angle would change the dividend tax treatment when I am clipping coupons in my doting old age.

Me thinks there might be others that are looking at oldsters without tax write-offs (no home mortgage, business expenses, etc.) to pay for stimulating projects!!!

Now, who could that be…

And, who are those chaps in tri-pointed hats…

Any one of us Feds want to have a TSP convention in D.C. this year…

Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8% sales tax on it - that's in the Obama healthcare bill. That will be a hit to those seniors that may want to down size for a smaller place.
