Article today in Govexec.com about the calculated pay raise for next year. According to current law, Federal Workers get 0.5% LESS than the Labor Department's "Employment Cost" number. Military would the "Employment cost" number- and
Federal employees then would get 0.5% less, by current law.

The "Employment Cost" number for December 2008 to December 2009 came out this week. It shows an increase of almost 1.5%. SO they are rounding down to 1.4% for the military.

Well, according to the standard formulas then, that would mean that next year (January 2011), the Military would get a raise of 1.4%. That appears to be the official proposal for next year for Military- 1.4%.

Which would give a Federal Employee pay raise, under the existing law, of 0.9%.
Potentially, it could even be less, depending on where they make the mark for the start/stop time. Employment Labor costs are not increasing right now, the are decreasing. So you have the possibility out there of something even lower than 0.9%.

Employee Unions are going to lobby pretty heavily for "Pay Parity", of course. We all better cross our fingers that our economy starts to chug along and take off pretty soon, or we'll find ourselves in the fall with lower numbers, and a chance of little or no raise next year.

Here's to a strengthening economy in 2010!

President's budget recommends pay parity

The president's fiscal 2011 budget proposal, unveiled Monday morning, recommends a 1.4 percent pay raise for civilian and military employees.

Administration officials praised the recommendation for civilian employees, pointing out that it's based on the traditional formula. The Employment Cost Index, one of the indicators for the formula, showed 1.4 percent growth from September 2008 to September 2009, according to White House reports.

Were you working for the Government when Reagan was in office?...

Cuz, this is nothing new....Any additional rumbles about RIFs and Furloughs?..that would make it more like the Reagan years:cool:

Were you working for the Government when Reagan was in office?...

Nope, sorry. I was in the military then, but not a civilian fed. I'm FERS. I did not have the CSRS deal that got canned during the Regan years.

By the way- the "Presiden't Pay Agent" report was posted last week on the OPM website:

http://www.opm.gov/oca/payagent/2009/index.asp

An extract:

" The ECI reference period for the January 2011 increase is the 12-month period ending on September 30, 2009. During that period, the ECI increased by 1.4 percent. Therefore, the January 2011 general increase, if granted, would be 0.9 percent (1.4 percent minus 0.5 percentage points)."

Some more interesting reading if you dig into it there.

Yeah, then you won't have to spend two months evaluating your own performance to convince supervision you did a good job!!

I'm still on the GS scales. I'm one of the bargaining units that was never able to reach agreement with the employer over a term contract. It's now been ten years without a contract.

Some day. Maybe with the new FLRA we'll stand a chance at pay. All we ever wanted was something that did not cause future employees to lose money from what they would have had under GS. But all they would keep offering was 20% less for future generations.

We were not able to agree.

Same reasons here...Oh well 3 more months and I won't have to worry about it...I'll be a blue badge.;)
