TACO Bell chain sued in court.

Turns out that "meat mixture" doesn't meet standards to be called "Beef".

The meat mixture sold by Taco Bell restaurants contains binders and extenders and does not meet the minimum requirements set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be labeled as "beef," according to the legal complaint.

The class-action lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in the Central District of California by the Montgomery law firm Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles.
Attorney Dee Miles said attorneys had Taco Bell's "meat mixture" tested and found it contained less that 35 percent beef.

Miles said the lawsuit does not seek monetary damages, but asks the court to order Taco Bell to be honest in its advertising.
"We are asking that they stop saying that they are selling beef," Miles said.
Which makes us ask.... Where is the beef?

Now HERE ya go.

On Taco Bell's website, you can find the following "Frequently asked questions".
(I didn't know they were frequently asked, but I guess they are!)

Q: I have heard a rumor that there's sand in your Taco meat. Is that true?

A: This is completely false. The truth is that what has been referred to as "sand" is in fact silicon dioxide. Silicon dioxide:
  • is a safe, common food ingredient often used in spices, seasonings, and many restaurant and packaged foods;
  • is primarily used in food to prevent ingredients from sticking together;
  • Is a naturally occurring mineral, often found in water, leafy green and root vegetables, cooked dried beans, whole grains, cereals, and fruits;
  • Can be found in many kitchen pantries across America, often in mashed potato and rice mixes, coffee, soups, and many spices and seasonings;
  • Is approved for use in food by the Food and Drug Administration here;
Like many in the food business, we use silicon dioxide in the seasonings and spices for our taco meat. When cooked, our beef contains about .0005% (that is, five ten-thousands of one percent) of this ingredient, far less than the FDA limit of 2%. Furthermore, we use certified organic silicon dioxide. It is not artificial and is not a preservative.

Hmm.....

Hey, Taco Bell. You know what "Silicon Dioxide" is?

IT'S SAND, YOU IDIOTS!

"beef contains about .0005%"??????? Hell you probably get more than that just breathing?
Get outa here!
I don't like the Roach Legs and Rat Scatter but that much sand is nothing.

I recommend the movie Food Inc.

After quitting the smoking gig, I had to start watching my diet to lose some unwanted weight.

My doc told me I had some estrogen overload in my system and recommended that my Atkin's like diet had too much processed meat.:sick:

Reviewing the origins, I found that it was 100% USDA meat with soy fillers and soy extracts.:sick:

These things kill me.

I found that most men over the age of 50 suffer the most from processed meat and that is why Viagra and Cialis are in such high demand.

I beg everyone to look at their diets like they do their investments to ensure that you will be there to enjoy your investments in retirement!

BTW 35% meat in seasoned mix is about right....make tacos at home and measure the ingredients...I have onion, green pepper, and jalapenos with some spices....usually the meat measures about 50% with water and some sauce.....:cool:

Side Note: I switched to locally grown turkey for my ground beef ingredients.....

Taco Bell responds.

Get this- Taco Bell says suit is baseless, because the standard of calling something "beef" is only applicable to ground beef, not restaurant food. Says their product doesn't have to meet labeling laws, because those labeling laws are only applicable to packages of hamburger.

If I were Taco Bell, I think I would want to change my beef to actual beef. I wouldn't argue in public that my product doesn't HAVE to be beef, to be called beef.

Don't you think?

Steak tacos for me from now on.

I would want to change my beef to actual beef.

have you seen how much actual beef costs lately?

it's like inflation or something.

i don't know, but i think melamine smells just as good on the grill, thanks sam walton.

where's a union when you need it, i like my burgers with lots of grilled unions on it.
