SPY = S&P 500 Index (C-fund)

More aggressive: SSO = 2X leveraged S&P 500 fund. Does 2 times whatever the S&P 500 does.

IWM = Russell 2000 (small caps) ETF

Definitely get some SPY, and QQQ.
But also try to find some areas you would like to invest in that you think will outgrow the main markets in the future.

Do some research on BUZ, BLOK and BOTZ.
BUZ (monitors social media and see's what stocks people are talking about and buys and sells them accordingly)
BLOK (Invest in companies that are poised to profit from the Blockchain)
BOTZ (Invest in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics stocks)

Also a good REIT ETF that pays a good dividend is a must for a long term investment portfolio in my opinion. A good one to look at is SRET
