Quick question.

I'm currently 100 percent in the S fund. I transferred to the S fund on 07/18/08 at $17.86. The way I understand it I will not enter nothing into the automated tracker until I make my next IFT correct?

Also all my contributions automatically go into the G fund each pay period which causes my contribution percentile to change every two weeks. Do I update the automated tracker on payday to reflect this? For example my actual contribution break down is 1.3% G fund and 98.7% S fund. (I know I can't use decimals so I would naturally round up or down to the nearest percent for automated tracker purposes.) It makes sense to me to update during every payday and IFT so I can get a more accurate return. Any help on how yall keep your tracker updated is appreciated. Thanks.

First - Welcome Aboard - you already sound like someone with incredible TSP intellect and I believe you'll do very well.

As long as your last ITF was 100% S Fund - it makes no difference where your contributions go.

If you rolled another account into the TSP (or you feel your contributions are fairly substantial) - you could always let us know when you went in to buy additional S Fund shares, (as I did on 8/4)

Your returns are updated with each ITF - so everything is cool.

Don't sweat the small stuff (like contributions) because the ITFs are frequent enough to show how you're doing.

100% S Fund - Wow - you're either a genius or simply have a lot of balls

Hi ussc -

Here is a list of the rules for being added to the tracker...
http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/showthread.php?p=113427#post113427

Now that you have 10 posts, you are eligible. According to #1, you need to contact ew_ret via a private message (PM), and he will add you.

1. You must be a registered member of the message board and have minimum of 10 posts before you can have a user profile in the Automated Tracker. Contact EW_ret by Private Message (PM) to create your user profile once you have met this requirement. Be aware that TSPTalk member/user names having spaces will have the spaces replaced with the underscore character for their User ID in the Automated Tracer (e.g. Mr Rogers becomes Mr_Rogers). This change to User ID does not affect your TSPTalk member/user name.

Your first allocation would be your current allocation (100% S). But that would not be considered a transfer since it is the initial allocation (in other words, you can make 2 more transfers in August if you'd like - same as your TSP account).

The tracker does not consider future contributions as it is a gauge of your market timing and not really an accurate indication of your account balance. It would be too complicated for us to program in contributions since we can not verify them.

If you have any questions, EW_ret would be your best source for tracker info, or myself as a secondary.

Best of luck!
Tom

Yeah I think I lucked out today:D

So did I, ;) got rid of my remaining S and C COB today. 100G for the rest of the month. For me it was pure luck. C was at my stop loss this morning so I put in to transfer both. I was going to have transfer tomorrow at the latest anyway since I am traveling Thursday and won't be able to monitor. I stayed vested in stocks when I travelled last year and lost 5% in a week. Vowed never to let that happen again. JB45

I too was considering getting out today. Unfortunately I got tied up with work and missed the cutoff. I will review the charts in the morning and make a decision to either stay in or get out. Since I got in at 17.89 I still have a little wiggle room.

I also go to 100% G when I'm traveling or don't have time to watch the markets. My usual strategy is to make about 60 cents per share and get out. I did that last year and got a 15% return according to the TSP annual statement. Last year I had a tougher time then years past paying attention to the market since I transferred to a new office. I am devoting more time to it this year. Good Luck

You might want to hold off. As the S Fund is the most likely leader in a real sustained upward trend.

Many believe there is "big money" waiting to get it. If the Funds continue showing strength and the S Fund in particular continues to grow - then most would rather go in as it's taking off. Once that happens it will rapidly go up.

A 15% Gain for last year is outstanding - you are very good.

OK I went 100% in the G fund today. Not sure if it is a smart move but I'm happy with the money I made since the 18th so it is time to let the market correct itself. Hopefully the S fund will have a good day today but with anything it is a gamble. Good luck trading.

Thanks my friend :)

If you haven't read Tom's Comments today - you should. If I were in your situation (short term trading) with a decent profit I'd go to G as well and relax a little while.

The problem with short term trading is "It's very hard to relax" because you're so anxious to get back in - waiting for the right time.

Anyway - GL to you as well.

Thanks for the advise I will read Tom's comments. I know what you mean when you say your anxious to get back in however you have to take all the emotion out of it and stick to what the charts are telling you. That is easier said then done.

OK I did a search so which account talk is Tom? Thanks

Good day to be in the G fund. I think I will hold out a little longer before I jump back in the S. Good luck to all.

After initially making a little money I'ver recently lost some major coin.

I considered getting out today but I cancelled my IFT so I'm still in the S fund. Hopefully today and tomorrow will be nice to me. This is stressful....
