TSP year to date returns

I have been using the TSP for many years. I guess I have never been BRAVE enough (especially after the 2008 debacle when I lost a lost a lot) to go full in to the Stock funds. I have always tried to maintain split my investments and to maintain some in the safe G fund. But after the past few weeks, I feel I am missing out here.

I just look at the leader board, and I see numerous individuals who have over a 30% return for the year. How did you/they do this? The total stock market is not up that much; no fund has a 30% return for the year.

How do you receive these huge returns? Any help/assistance/advise would be appreciated.

Some were lucky enough to time the market just right. I have been 100% "S" fund for the year. I've been as low as -15% and as high as 18%. Had I stopped the bleeding early in February my numbers could be much higher.

We have gotten away from talking about our IFT's and seem to have delved more into politics.

It used to be that the top folks in autotracker would give a hint when they were making a move and why and then it was up to those following their moves whether to make a move or not. As long as they were not in a Premium Service.

There are still a few on here that advertise their moves but you're right there seem to be less. Could be a case of "If you can't beat them might as well join them". Tough to complain with 10%+ returns annually.

Its possible to follow the folks at/near the top of the AT, but you have to track the 'IFT of the Day' page very closely. Still, even doing that its hard to tell if someone is just lucky or has it on the ball. I try to post my moves, but often its right at the deadline... I did pretty well last year, but this year was no great shakes.
