Tuesday turned out to be a buying opportunity for the week. Five of the six TSP Talk AutoTracker members who outperformed all of the TSP funds for the week increased their stock exposure on Tuesday while stocks were slipping. The sixth member to outperform the TSP funds increased their stock exposure on Wednesday where the C and I funds dropped slightly more.
Tuesday was the bulk of the mid-week pull-back, and the C-fund followed up with a 1.84% bounce back by the end of the week, the S-fund a 2.73% bounce back, and the I-fund a 2.17% bounce back.
The I-fund outperformed the other TSP funds for the week with an accumulative return of 1.55% over the five days.
Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending May 4:
Last week’s best performer among the TSP Talk AutoTracker was nospin. Nospin accumulated a 2.68% return for the week and did it with three IFTs. Three IFTs in one week? But we only have two IFTs to work with a month. Their maneuvering was impressive, and I’ll break it down:
Nospin came into the week holding 20% C, 60% S, and 20% I, an allocation they had held through all of April. They made their first IFT of April on Monday by moving to the 100% G-fund while all three TSP stock funds had modest gains for the day. Tuesday (April 30) was that big buying opportunity where stocks pulled back, and nospin was right back in using their second IFT of April to buy 40% C, 25% S, and 35% I-fund. Those two trades alone set nospin up for the best return for the week, but nospin also moved back to the 100% G-fund on Friday, using their first IFT of May, their third IFT of the week, and nospin still have the opportunity to move back into stocks during May.
We also want to recognize Felixthecat for coming out on top in the TSP Talk April AutoTracker contest. Felixthecat snuck to the top in the last two days of April with a move to 100% G-fund on Monday to avoid Tuesday's losses and push them to the top. Impressive timing.
