TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up - The Early Exit

The market favored the G-fund last week. All of the TSP funds outside of the G-fund were down by the end of the week. Tuesday was the only day for the bulls, especially if they held the C-fund. The C-fund gained 1.12% on Tuesday alone yet suffered a loss to some degree the other four days of the week. Anyone who held the C-fund and moved to the G-fund on Tuesday would have locked in a weekly gain of over 1%. Only one member among TSP Talk made that move this week: Booster.

Booster’s move out of the C-fund and into the G-fund on Tuesday led them to stand out from the herd with their weekly gain of 1.08%. This return against the rest pushed Booster to the top 100 of the TSP Talk non-premium AutoTracker standings.

Dannyboy was the only other member to outperform the G-fund among TSP Talk AutoTracker members. Dannyboy left their stock fund holdings behind on Wednesday and moved to 100% G-fund to lock in a 0.44% gain for the week.

Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending March 15:

There has been a noteworthy development among the TSP Talk AutoTracker community. There has been a shift into the I-fund over the last two weeks. The I-fund is a less popular TSP fund with most stock investors choosing the C and S-funds. But something has lifted its popularity over the last two weeks.

Two weeks ago, the average allocation among non-premium members held just 3% I-fund. This is slim next to the C and S-fund which both hold over 25% of allocations each. Since then, the average allocation of the I-fund is up to 6.5%, more than doubling.

It could be the I-fund has outperformed the C and S-fund over the last two weeks, but that wasn’t true for this previous week alone when it seemed the flow of allocation to the I-fund accelerated.

At the same time the C and S-fund average allocations have not changed much, rather the G-fund has dropped around three percent in the last two weeks. So, the TSP Talk AutoTracker has become more bullish over the last two weeks and the greatest recipient has been the I-fund.

Something to think about!
