TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up - Opportunistic Investors

The S-fund is enriching its investors this month. With thirteen trading days behind us in October, the S-fund has accumulated a 3.2% return. For a $100,000 account, that's a quick jump of $3200 in value.

Six members of the TSP Talk AutoTracker have squeezed out even more gains from the market this month. Premium Member gitkrunk leads the community in October with a 4.38% return so far. Gitkrunk also happens to be the current leader of the 2024 TSP Talk AutoTracker standings as well. Gitkrunk's 2024 return is up to 26.61% beating the C-fund's 2024 return of 24.28%. Impressively they've achieved this with a responsive risk-averse strategy. They've used 18 IFTs this year yet have held 50% G-fund or more during 60% of 2024.

It is uncanny to see a +26% return from a low-risk investment strategy. A quick glance at gitkrunk's allocations through the year appear to be built from a conservative approach. They have used 18 IFTs this year but have spent around 60% of 2024 with at least 50% in the G-fund. Yet a glance at their 26.61% return seem it would to be the product of an aggressive high-risk approach. The two together can only be reconciled by saying gitkrunk has used an opportunistic approach.

Despite their typically conservative approach, gitkrunk is fully invested in stocks right now riding the market while the stock indices are at their highs for the year. Only one other member of the six beating the S-fund this month also remains fully invested in stocks. The other four are protecting their new gains from a potential pull-back and waiting for their next opportunity to jump back into stocks.
