This week was one to give any stockholder whiplash. The latest Consumer Price Index came out Tuesday and its higher-than-expected reading sparked a sell-off that was easy to mistake for the start of a deeper correction. But instead, stock indices bounced back amply on Wednesday — this was most true for small caps and the S-fund. Prices continued higher on Thursday, but the C and S-funds ended the week with losses on Friday.
The I-fund's positive return on Friday pushed its weekly return above the S-fund's to be the best return among the TSP funds. The I-fund and its 100% holders were rewarded with a 1.14% return for the week. That included only 29 of the TSP Talk AutoTracker members, the I-fund is currently the least held fund among the TSP Talk AutoTracker.
These I-fund holders did not take the crown for best return for the week among TSP Talk AutoTracker members. That goes to a member who made an unusual move for an investor limited to two IFTs a month, moving into stocks for one day of exposure to then moving back to the G-fund the next day. Beau435 saw a buying opportunity when stocks gapped down on Tuesday and sold-off more in the early morning trading. Coming from 100% G-fund, Beau435 moved to 30% C-fund and 70% S-fund on Tuesday. Beau435 got the bounce back they were looking for the next day and was quick to take profits for the month by moving back to 100% G-fund. This back-to-back IFTs move gave Beau4345 a 1.89% return for the week.
Although Beau435 could have padded their gains with another day of exposure, this was an impressive move for someone who does not want to hold stocks. Get in, get a return, and get out. This was a move sparked by opportunity and execution. I am impressed.
Full disclosure, Beau435 is a member of TSP Talk Plus and The Last Look Report so you will not find their name in the non-premium AutoTracker standings. To keep the integrity of Premium Services, you can only find them on the AutoTracker standings that include Premium Members.
