so this is my first post outside of the introduction thread. I have heard from several different people in different areas that were all closer to retirement than I am that there are a couple ways to pull money out of your tsp without being taxed. i have heard that you can make yearly "gifts" up to a certain amount to a member of your immediate family and not be taxed. I have also heard that this in not correct and that instead one can make a "one time gift" to their immediate family up to a certain amount without being taxed. is there any truth to this?

Welcome to the MB. I am not a tax professional and you need to talk to one, but yes and no. You can gift money to family members, I believe $10k per member, but if you take it out of TSP you pay the tax and they don't. No getting out of that.
