Hello all. I'm new to the board, and "new" to the TSP with only 2 years of contributions so far. The first 2 years I was in the L2040 fund, "buy and hold" as it's affectionately referred to here, but this year I decided to play the game with the rest of you. I'm going to follow Intrepid Trader for the most part since I'm a newbie.

Currently I'm 100% I Fund, but made an IFT to the F Fund starting Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing how the year goes, and learning from everyone here. I'm guessing I have about 30 years left, so plenty of time to learn . . .

Welcome! 30 years is a way to go. I wish I had TSP Talk 21 years ago when I joined the FEDS. You're starting out the right way... Start saving and trading now and you'll have very comfortable (hopefully) retirement..

Thanks for the kind words. I have a quick question. If I'm 100% I fund and made an IFT to 100% F fund before noon today, will I get credit for gains/losses in the I fund or F fund today?

I Fund. Your IFT for F will take place at the end of business today and will lose or gain next business day.

No problem! I have so much to learn as this is the first time I've tried to manage my TSP. If you are like me, the help you receive from this site will be invaluable.

Can someone please explain to me why the I Fund shares dropped .20% on Friday when the EFA gained .61%?? I thought the I Fund tracked the EFA? Thanks for any insight, I'm still trying to get the hang of this.

Welcome t_t! In the long run, the I-fund will match the EFA, but the EFA trades during U.S. trading hours and in general the I-fund tracks the EAFE during actual trading hours, which closes much earlier. The folks who manage our I-fund will determine if adjustments need to be made but they are not always accurate.

See EAFE quotes here: http://www.mscibarra.com/products/indices/global_equity_indices/gimi/stdindex/performance.html
