How much did you save during the pandemic so far? $50,000? How about $9,000?
At our peak of childcare when the kids were under the age of five, we were spending some $13,000 a year so this could have been a huge financial help for anyone who was able to work from home with young kids. (Though they were probably mentally fried 8 months ago.)
Not spending on gasoline for one of us was a big savings help since the shutdown. Not paying for after school activities and summer camps was another, but children will never have that time back again. Definitely got some things repaired around the house that we didn't plan on, so that was good.
The divide is huge though.

The top quintile of households has saved an average of $50,000 since the pandemic started, while for the second quintile averaged $9,000, the analysis found. For the rest of the population, their savings are currently at their pre-pandemic levels or, in some cases, lower.
