The Hurricane and the TSP

I have not seen any notifications from the TSP about how they are handling the closed markets and the TSP share prices.

I assume the options are:

- No share price today and treated like a holiday with no transactions being processed.

- Flat share prices in which they allow transactions.

- Potentially a normal day where prices may be slightly changed due to futures and international trading.

We didn't have daily share prices in September of 2001, which I believe is the last time the markets had an unscheduled / non-holiday closing, so this is new for us.|

If you hear anything, please post it here. Thanks!

Info from the TSP.

CLOSING NOTICE

Some financial markets are closed today due to Hurricane Sandy. Transactions that would have been processed Monday night (October 29th) will be processed when markets reopen which is currently anticipated to be Tuesday (October 30th), at Tuesday's closing share prices.

Daily Maintenance — There will be daily routine system maintenance and backups between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., Eastern time, which may cause slower than normal transaction response times.
If you are experiencing problems accessing your account outside of these times, read “Troubleshooting Login Errors.”

Thanks Scout333, I didn't see your post!

I heard this morning on my way to work that the Market is also expected to be closed on Tuesday so transactions could be delayed even more. More concerned about the impact on the market when it does reopen.:worried:

Hurricane Sandy to keep stock markets shuttered Tuesday

Updated at 1:50 p.m. ET:
For the first time since the Great Blizzard 1888, U.S. stock markets will be closed for two consecutive days due to weather.
The decision to close financial markets for a second straight day on Tuesday was made during a call between industry executives and regulators, Reuters said. The Nasdaq Stock Market said in a statement it would be closed for business again on Tuesday.

Question to all:

If lower NYC flooding is so bad that trading stays closed Wed 31st...if you have made a trade in the previous few days that does not get executed till Thu Nov 1st, do you get charged with a Nov move even though you made the request a few trading days before?

Only the FRTIB knows (bwahahah).

We could be screwed on that one. They would have to make a bunch of coding changes to allow a 3rd move in November. And being an ex-programmer in the gov't, I know nothing works that quickly.

I could make the change in 30 minutes, but it doesn't work that way. 50 analysts have to look at it first, then go through a test team, etc.

Updated message from the TSP.gov website...

Due to Hurricane Sandy, the US markets are closed Monday, October 29 and Tuesday, October 30. Any transactions received after 12:00 PM on Friday, October 26, will be processed as of the close of business on the day the market reopens which is currently anticipated to be Wednesday (October 31st) at Wednesday's closing share prices.

Nikkei was down a little yesterday, up a little today. Europe was down a little yesterday. S&P futures are down moderately right now, but appear headed back up. I think everything is just in a holding pattern until this storm blows over. Nevertheless, it makes me feel better about being 50/50 for the moment.
