Since there has not been a section or thread specific to the FAA..I thought I'd start one....

This article in part is good for the FAA techs..This means new hiring and new schools and training in OKC...this is all good IMO.

Obama assails GOP, promotes new jobs program​

The plan calls for rebuilding 150,000 miles of roads; building and maintaining 4,000 miles of rail lines and 150 miles of airport runways, and installing a new air navigation system to reduce travel times and delays.

The "new air navigation system" referred to is the ground support equipment related to next-gen ADS-B.

It's run by private contractors, not FAA employees. See Marion Blakey's pitch for an idea of what corporations benefit out of that money. It isn't FAA employees.

Some of the companies include Boeing, General Dynamics, ITT, and a host of others.

My favorites are the BILLIONS awarded to companies that hired FAA Senior Executives. One week the FAA SES's were preparing and approving multi-million dollar contract packages- the next week THEY were working for those very contractors at high six-figure salaries. You tell me- how does a "small business" qualify as such when they get a $1.15 billion dollar contract? And when some of their Board Members just happen to be recently retired Senior FAA executives?? Count how many of these board members previously collected six-figure paychecks from the FAA, before hitting the big-buck bonanza at Metron Aviation's billion dollar contract award?

I was wondering why all the hush-hush, keep your mouth shut stuff was going around this past spring, about talking about working for contractors after retirement before you retired...Makes some sense now..the SES a$$holes kicked the bee's nest.and the rest of us were put under a magnifying glass until we retired....Good thing I made my deals after I retired..
 
Controller faulted in Hudson midair collision​

"WASHINGTON – Errors by an air traffic controller distracted by a personal phone call set the stage for a midair collision last year over the Hudson River between a tour helicopter and a small plane that claimed nine lives, a federal safety panel said Tuesday.
While the National Transportation Safety Board placed a large share of the blame for the Aug. 8, 2009, accident on the controller, it also faulted Federal Aviation Administration rules in the busy air corridor over the Hudson between New York and New Jersey that rely on pilots to "see and avoid" other aircraft rather than be actively separated by air traffic controllers."

Another Whistle Blower case- this time it's an FAA Lawyer, who says he was fired, after blogging about legal activity where he worked.

He writes that on Monday this week, they met him at FAA HQ's door. His 2nd level supervisor, and four or five security guards, according to his blog, where they told him he was fired, and escorted him out.

FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown told POGO that "Mr. Pardo is no longer employed by the FAA.” She added she “cannot discuss personnel matters,” because of privacy laws. Brown did not say whether FAA has an employee policy on blogging or using social media. Pardo has his theory on why he was terminated: he says he was fired at least partly because of his blog.

"I was fired ostensibly for blogging about my experiences in pursuit of the truth, and for disclosing violations of law and abuses by FAA officials at the Office of Chief Counsel," Pardo said in an email to POGO.

FAA loses track of 119,000 aircraft​


NEW YORK – The Federal Aviation Administration is missing key information on who owns one-third of the 357,000 private and commercial aircraft in the U.S. — a gap the agency fears could be exploited by terrorists and drug traffickers.
The records are in such disarray that the FAA says it is worried that criminals could buy planes without the government's knowledge, or use the registration numbers of other aircraft to evade new computer systems designed to track suspicious flights. It has ordered all aircraft owners to re-register their planes in an effort to clean up its files.
About 119,000 of the aircraft on the U.S. registry have "questionable registration" because of missing forms, invalid addresses, unreported sales or other paperwork problems, according to the FAA. In many cases, the FAA cannot say who owns a plane or even whether it is still flying or has been junked.

Very, very old story. That's the whole reason they did the Federal Register Notice a year and a half ago, and decided to have renewals, at the direction of Congress, who told them to do it back in 2005.


I sold an aircraft in 1981, and got a tri-enniel notice in 1985 from FAA registry. I told them then in 1985 that I had sold it, and gave them the name and location of the buyer. It's been in "sale reported" status since 1985.

Believe it or not, two weeks ago I saw it advertised for sale on a website. I e-mailed the current owner, and he said he needed a bill of sale from me so that he could register the aircraft.


This- for an aircraft I SOLD in 1981.

Hmmm.......
 
What is the story on this one? ? ?

We don't let U.S. people operate unmanned aircraft without a very intensive permitting process, and closed airspace.

Yet here is a MEXICAN unmanned aircraft that DRIFTS OVER THE BORDER( Yeh, right) and crashes in El Paso, Texas???

FAA head Randy Babbitt placed on leave after drunk driving arrest in Fairfax

The head of the Federal Aviation Administration is on administrative leave after being charged with drunk driving Saturday night by Fairfax City police, according to the Department of Transportation.
FAA Administrator Jerome Randolph “Randy” Babbitt, 65, was arrested after being spotted driving on the wrong side of Old Lee Highway, according to the arresting officer.
