Tainted Eggs From China Discovered in Hong Kong

Melanine in Chocolate Candy Coins

According to this email, Melanine has also been found in chocolate candy coins - something to watch out for with Halloween fast approaching.

Those of you with children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, need to be aware of this cautionary notice.

Wishing for all a fun Halloween, if your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews participate in this day of candy and costumes.

I checked the snopes website and this was last updated on 10/19/08.

For those of you with little ghosts and goblins in your lives.

So...I ate off Melmac dishes from about six to when I left home at 19. Since they are made from melamine and formaldehyde does this mean I also am doomed?

Melmac, did you eat the dishes? If not you shiuld be OK. My family had kitchen cabinets full of that stuff.:D

Yes, you're fine. Melanine is used in many types of plastics, and doesn't outgas poisons or anything like that: definately approved for serving and eating ware. As Nnut says, it's when you deliberately eat a lot of it - plus our systems are stronger than those of infants and small children so our systems won't try to integrate it. That doesn't mean eat the plate, of course.

Guess you don't really understand/appreciate my New England humor.

I don't think I ever ate any. My sisters might disagree. Did break a few though.

The fact that melamine is being mixed in to food products to make them look or test better is pretty disgusting

The fact that it is passed from feed to eggs is downright alarming.
