Someone pointed out to me that the Wilshire 4500 is showing a 6% gains for today, and I see it on 3 different quote services (see below). Interesting. I haven't seen anything specific but I heard there was a software glitch at the NYSE and / or Nasdaq today.

The Wilshire 45000 is basically the same thing as the Dow Completion Index so they should be very close in return normally.

The DWCPF quote is not confirming this.

Does anyone know whats up with the S-Fund?

The Russell (small caps) is down 1.49% while both Google and Yahoo charts show the DWCPF up between 3% and 4%.

I'm assuming the up 4% is wrong, esp given the spike line, but does anyone have a link to an accurate number? I'm thinking it should be similar to the Russel.

It was up 9% right at the cutoff. Did the whole tsp account move to S fund at the same time? (I'm kidding of course)

Whatever happened to $DWCPF at 11:50 AM it went up over 9% from 1320 to 1440? Then it jumped down to 1379 at 12:20 pm I hope it's true and it holds but that's a big jump for an index! I have been looking for the cause but can't find it.

Big Gap back down to 1320s at 12:45. Sigh, I guess Tom is right, those gaps do tend to get filled rather quickly. Made my day. Don't need any more coffee.

As I recall, they pay out the end of year dividend right about now, and that affects on paper the price, which then corrects the next day.

It doesn't have the same action in the "S" fund price, though.

I see this folder hasn't had a question asked for awhile now, so I'm here to save the day!

My question is if the S fund is tracking the DOW how is it that the DOW can close up and the S fund is down?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris. It doesn't track the Dow. It tracks the Dow Completion Index. It's basically all U.S. stocks that are not in the S&P 500, so midcaps and small caps.
