Stocks: When in Doubt…Keep Buying?
[at Barrons.com] - The S&P 500 has ticked up 0.1% to 1,772.58 at 10:08 a.m., led higher by the likes of J.C. Penney (JCP), which has risen 4.3% to $8.58, Transocean (RIG), which has advanced 3.4% to $55.26 after it reached an agreement with Carl Icahn and said it will IPO an MLP, and BestBuy (BBY), which is up 3.1% to 43.71 after the electronics retailer was upgraded to Buy from Neutral at UBS. The Russell 2000 is little changed at 1,100.05. Goldman Sachs considers whether the glass is half full or half empty for small-cap stocks. David Kostin and team write: The Russell 2000 has returned 28% YTD, outperforming the S&P 500 on the strength of undemanding valuation and accelerating US GDP growth.
