Saving money for retirement

I bet the individuals in both photos float real well.

I think about the money the pool wastes on occasion. Then the kids/grandkids come to visit. There is nothing like watching 30 somethings try to drown each other while others try to protect children. It's a keeper for now.

Watches, I ruin them at work. Or take them off for safety and leave them somewhere.

Cars, yeah, I like nice newer cars. Since I drive about 150 miles per week, not much sense getting rid of the old one. No longer use it for off roading but it is mine.

Cheap beer...I am drinking a Natural Light as I type this.

TDs, I live in Cards country but am by birth a Pats person. I heard today that the US most notable patriot is named Brady. Beat Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison etc.

The point of starting this was to tell about what you do to save money that makes no real sense in the overall scheme.

Like not turning the AC on while driving to work at 5:30 when it's 92 degrees just because it's 5:30.

I prefer cheap beer and big TDs ... football season is upon us. Did you see the top 100 marathon on NFL network today?

Ya know if you say TDs real fast what it sounds like dontcha?

Yes I do. A lot comes to mind to say about that but I will wait for your reply.
No malice intended..we all have our personal priorities..And usually a pool is a major one...especially over brewing fresh coffee...

Me--- it's new cars and fine watches.;)

Just got this little jewel..

This is a somewhat whimsical thread about things we do out of habit to save money. Sometimes we are ridiculed; sometimes we just get rolled eyes and a “good idea” response. Most of the time we just do what we do and don’t talk about it.

Most of my cheap habits come from the years I was single, on active duty and paying child support. I qualified for what was then called BAQ at the with dependents rate. Because…I had dependents.

I also was single. This made for some interesting situations about a place to lay my head and store my stuff. The military either supplies a place to sleep or pays money in lieu of. I always got the money. A place to sleep was always a gray area and on a space available basis at best.

During these years, all of my assignments were to small locations that either had no traditional barracks (dormitory to you newer more PC types) or had no room in the existing facilities.

This boring personal history is to give some insight in to my habits. I also have to credit my parents who were always telling me to turn off lights and such.

Today’s subject, finally, is coffee. During my four day week I take from home four cups to drink on the drive to work. I usually make a full pot Monday and reheat the remaining cups in the microwave on Tuesday through Thursday morning. Tastes fine to me.

Many people have been utterly disgusted with this habit and called me cheap. Many have suggested making one cup per day. I have figured out the cost and for my method I use approximately .15kWh per week. The one cup per day method uses approx .3 kWh per week. Plus of course the cost of 3 more paper filters.

Plus we have to think of the polar bear’s children.

I invite all to contribute ways you save money that others do not understand.

Happy Independence Day.
