PGA suspends 17 golfers for playing in Saudi-backed LIV event

The Department of Justice is investigating whether the PGA Tour engaged in anticompetitive behavior as it battles the upstart, Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit.
“If this is an arms race and if the only weapons here are dollar bills, the PGA Tour can’t compete,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in June. “The PGA Tour, an American institution, can’t compete with a foreign monarchy that is spending billions of dollars in [an] attempt to buy the game of golf.”

The whining. How about those 84 international golfers in the PGA? PGA doesn't want anyone else to have those players.

PGA is just another rich man's walled garden that needs reform.

They can still compete in the US Open (run by US Golf Association), British Open and I think the Masters since it's invite only. They just won't be able to compete in the PGA championship.

Help me understand- is there some kind of PGA contract that prohibits members from playing elsewhere? The article seems to infer that, but doesn’t exactly say it.

Does that kind of a contract even have legal binding authority outside the USA?

LIV Golf in a statement called the decision “vindictive” and said it “deepens the divide between the Tour and its members.”
