So please help me understand here, because neither I nor Spouse are military. Is the problem that Petraeus blabbed stuff to his adulterous partner? Because I always thought he was a pretty good general and those are difficult to find. Now I don't condone his adultery. I believe very strongly in complete monogamy. But from a military standpoint, why was it so important that the FBI tracked it for so long and then the General resigned. Why do we care so much where he parked his pink Prius?

Because he could be Blackmailed by spies into divulging classified information and forced to make decisions that would endanger the security of the USA. Working for the Government with a security clearance puts you in the position of possibly losing your security clearance for things like that, even if you have bad debts can cause you to lose your job because you can't work without your clearance. They let Lying Eyes Bill Clinton get away with it so it must be OK!Don't get me started!!!
