New Year's Resolutions

I have worked tirelessly in setting New Year's Resolutions every January 1st. While I'm not always the best at keeping them, I'm consistent, and I'm sure this year will be better than ever before. I thought maybe you'd enjoy seeing the progress I've made.

So do you make New Year's Resolutions? I do, with mixed results. This year I am making two resolutions:

(1) I resolve to do my yoga every single day. Same resolution I made last year. I bombed that one!

(2) I resolve to quit skipping my swimming days. That's a new one. It wouldn't have been needed if I'd done my yoga every single day. <rolls eyes with a grin>

If you are going to make resolutions this year, what resolutions will you make? And if you're not going to make them, did you ever?

i make resolutions every year, and every year it's the same, i blow it.

so this year i resolve only one thing, i resolve to be better. gives me some room to manuever, and plus it's practical, i might just do it.

I never make a resolution or promise I can't keep...

But this year..I resolve to quit smoking.....(Ummm, Cigarettes that is;))

If Jim can do it, I can do it..:suspicious:

Go for it Buster.....In April will be my two year anniversary!!!!!

Couple of guys here quit using an e-cig......got the harsh stuff out of their lungs first, then backed off the nicotine dosages....now they just puff on vapor!

Good Luck, Brother!

Best wishes on your quitting smoking. I've got 27 days, 15 hours, 21 minutes behind me. Note: Cigars don't count!

Thanks for the moral support..

My Resolution starts officially at Mid-Night Dec 31st..

That gives me a little over 4 days to burn up my last four packs of cigs.:)

But some experts who have quit successfully said to keep one unopened pack on hand, to stave off that subconscious worry that you don't have any..this way you won't be tempted to go out and get that pacifier pack.

I did that last New Years and lasted a week. Weak am I.:cheesy:

It gets easier to want to quit when you're smoking 5 cartons a month, for me that's 250 bucks a month. There are so many other things I could do with that money. The cigars help with the "I'll never get to smoke again" thoughts.

One time I tried that and found myself inhaling cigars just like I did Cigs so I tried a pipe and did the same, didn't help me a bit, but that's me. View attachment 10373

It's never too late!
I've always maintained the addiction to cigs has a high degree of psychological bias, because not only do you focus on your breathing when you smoke, you can see "your breath".
It's the same mantra as starting a meditation session, -you focus on your breathing.
Here in WA 7-11 sells a starter pack of eCigs for $19.99, with a refill kit for $15.
Here is the site for the brand 7-11 sells- (no propylene glycol, glycerin instead)

I took a puff from one- the "regular" does have a tobacco flavor and convincing "smoke".
You can do it, Buster!

good luck buster, sounds like you've thought about it and committed. i hope you get there.

i need to do the same, but always an excuse and never the right time.

go white crab go.

I would not wish the way I did it on anyone- but since you pointed it out....

After 35 years of more than a pack a day, it was the double-over in chest pain, call 9-11, have EMS give you nitro-tabs, an ambulance ride, five hours in the Emergency room, then having the doctor say "Either quit smoking, or you might as well start getting your stuff in order for the funeral now". Double stent-implant does a lot to convince someone that it's time to quit. A week off work recovering. Never even told the boss- I happened to be on annual leave that week anyway.

Yep- I did it. I quit. Seven months now without a smoke.

Prayer works a great deal to help with the withdrawal symptoms. The third day is the hardest, then it gets a little easier.

You still want one every once in a while. But you can't.

Yep, Buster. Now is the time.

I'll say it again. When things are really, really, really bad, (and they will be), then prayer works. Hard prayer. Hard, hard prayer.

I hope your quitting is far less eventful than mine was. But I know you can do it. If I can do it- you can.

(Five drugs now keeping everything in check- blood pressure/cholesterol/blood sugar/thinners, etc. What a mess).

Thanks Jim..I know you've been through hell..glad you licked it and on the rebound..

Tell me something..I've heard that ex-smokers long after they have quit..still dream about smoking in their dreams and wake up feeling guilty or ashamed for smoking again...then to realize it was just a damn dream..does that really happen?

Not to me. I don't dream about smoking.

I DO crave a smoke every now and then. But not in my dreams. Today it was about two or three times during the day I wanted one. But it lasted only for a few minutes, and I moved on.

RESOLUTION #1:
