New to the TSP

Hello everyone. When you change your allocations, do you also interfund transfer all the current monies to those perspective funds? For example, if the current recommendation is 65% S/35% C, would I go to MyPay and change my allocation to the 65/35, then go to TSP and transfer all monies to match those percentages? Thanks for all you do.

Welcome newbie!

I usually only do an interfund transfer. When you do an interfund transfer, your total balance gets moved at that point. If you haven't made a transfer in a month or more and your contribution allocation is different than your current allocation, you might go in and do another transfer to get those new contributions into your desired allocation. If you were to do just one, I would do the interfund transfer. But you could just as easily do both.

Thank you so much for the reply. So would the bestoption be to have funds put into the G-Fund and then transfer them around as needed, or is there a better fund than that to chose to dump all 100% into before I move it?

I guess it would depend how often you make transfers. I have had my contributions set to 50/50 C and S fund for a longtime. Since I make several transfers per year, I never worried too much about it. I've actually been a little less active than usual lately so if and when I get more bearish I may move those contributions to the G fund.
