Moody's Threat of US Downgrade!

Exactly. Including me. And everyone here if they are honest.

Not exactly... If it means a lot of us have to go to get things on the right track then I'll take my lumps. I was looking for work when I found this job. And I have other skills, acquired by the way, through hard work and a willingness to learn. Sure it might not be as familiar or predictable as my current digs, but you do what you got to do. I've never gone hungry, and I've always carried my weight, and the weight of those I'm responsible for. What? None of you have had a promise broken after you did your part of the bargain? Sucks, but it happens. You got to move on. I will bet my retirementment that most of your eventual retirements will look nothing like, nor be near as much fun, as you had envisioned.

Bottom line: are you willing to trade your comfortable present to preserve a viable shot at the future for our great nation, or does that not matter so long as you're eating good and the chef prepared everything for you to your satisfaction?

Despite the comfortable seats, I'm more worried about the wheels coming off this train. Besides, I don't like where we're headed.

We got new blood last time. Unfortunately it appears a lot of them took a Government job because they want to legislate the Federal Government out of existance.

Don't shoot the messenger. I don't think they 'took' gubmint jobs because they want to. More like they 'got' the job because a majority of the voters hired them to do it, and it appears they are up to the task.

Oh my, I just think I figured out why people take politics so personally ... when you denigrate a politician, you are actually insulting their stupid constituents.

Wall Street and the banks got us into this with the mortgage fiasco. They should have to help fix it. They have way too much clout with the money they have to throw at congress to buy their votes for that to happen. They want us to pay for their mistakes.
You might want to check your facts on what precipitated the morgage fiasco (aka 'caused'). No doubt, the funny crap they were doing with mortgage backed securities should have been noticed by the SEC, but their crazy securities are not what precipitated that crash... Unfortunately, the people who did, will never pay and if it was the banks, they wouldn't either.

About throwing money around. How about POTUS claiming he is going to use $1B to get re-elected. How can anyone compete with that?

American people want solutions as long as it doesn't affect them.

However, I am feeling better today that we will get a deal. I just hope its fair.

A week and a half until August 2, and still no sign of a viable Bill. Fed Management has no idea what's going to happen. Here we go again, Groundhog day.

Good solutions will effect everyone...

Too many people do not pay taxes (no vested interest), or get money from the goverment (too much vested interest).

We need to take the politics out of this and come up with some good, sound financial solutions, or we will soon be speaking Mandarin...

I agree. But are these idiots in Washington really going to do the right thing?

Burro, give up. This is like ethanol for him, neither positions will he budge... Ethanol and Democrats are our only viable future :D

"We are Borg, resistance is futile"

...54% of Americans believe that it is either somewhat or very likely that failing to raise the debt ceiling will cause the stoppage ... of benefits ... because of the failure ... to pass a debt ceiling increase.

So, for the record, more than half of Americans want to borrow more than we make in order to keep their free stuff coming, is that what you are saying?

The American people want solutions.

I agree with that.

It's not just me. It's the majority of Americans who want the debt ceiling raised, and who see one side as the side responsible.

I disagree with that. I highly doubt that a majority of sensible Americans want to continue spending money we don't have via debt we can't afford, even while interest rates are at an all time low. I wonder how much more affordable the debt payments will be when interest rates increase? Does anyone really think that living beyond your means is going to get any cheaper or end up a successful strategy?

That is soooo 2008. I got your responsibility right here.

Yup, cause they hate the country so much.

Get over yourself James. No one can even take you seriously when you say crap like that...

A poll published today says Eighty two percent (82%) of Americas now say it is somewhat likely or very likely that the economy will take a major downturn and stocks will crash if there is a default on the debt ceiling.

And 54% of Americans believe that it is either somewhat or very likely that failing to raise the debt ceiling will cause the stoppage of veterans, Social Security, and Medicare benefits. They'll be cut off. And that is directly because of the failure of Congress- specifically the House of Representatives, to pass a debt ceiling increase.
