Migrating from Micro$oft to Linux

M$ (and the NSA) has gone too far with Windows 10. I always knew this day would come. I'm prepping to leave the M$ OS paradigm.

I already use Linux for a couple of things. Now I'll be embracing it full boar. My main tether to M$ is Excel.

To severe that cord, I'll be learning LibreOffice Calc and its macro BASIC. (Calc also can be controlled via Python.) But first, I'll learn more about Linux in general; Ubuntu specifically (and also Kali).

I look forward to having more of my computer resources go towards my applications and not NSA spyware or a bloated OS.

But for as long as I have old laptops lying around, I'll continue to keep locked-down windows 7 and/or windows 8.1 installs available to me for whatever purposes: Testing/Practicing mainly--I suppose. But I'll never use win10. If I buy a new laptop with win10 pre-installed. I'll disinfect it and install Linux.

I'm glad M$ did this whole win10 thing. I suspect it'll drive more folks to Linux, which is good. And it's forcing me to do what I should have done long ago.

No more BSOD.

Absolutely. Firefox makes a Linux version. Instead of downloading/installing pure Linux. Most install a 'package.' This package contains addition, common, well-used software as well as the Linux OS. Ubuntu is a popular package. It come with both Chrome and Firefox.

in College we used Fedora. I've never used Ubuntu, so I can't tell you how it compares, but might be worth looking into as an option.

I don't know if its changed, but I didn't find installing programs on Linux very simple

I've been using the Ubuntu LiveCD for years. Ubuntu has been all the rage lately. I'll check out Fedora.

I used Kubuntu and Ubuntu for a bit, its a good system just not a lot of compability if you game or do any sort of graphic works. there are no compatible drivers for Nvidia, atleast not when I played with it.
