I'm new so bear w/ me. I have my money in the 2020 fund and wish to move it to the G fund. If I put in a transfer say at 9:00 am at what price does the 2020 sell for and when does the G fund buy?

Welcome to the MB kevinran. That would be the price at Close Of Business (COB) that day, when your transfer is before the 12:00 deadline. After the deadline it's at COB the next day.
Best of luck

First off, welcome aboard. You say you have your money in the L-2020
which tells me you have a few years before retirement. Right ? Maybe
12 years give or take ? It's important to understand, all that you can,
about the L-Funds and I recommend you start at the TSP web site:
http://www.tsp.gov/lifecycle/flash/index2020.html
By playing with the Pie Chart, you can determine what portion of your
money is going into each fund. It stood in April of 2008 as follows:
31.40% (G)
07.73% (F)
32.07% (C)
10.90% (S)
17.90% (I)
The L-Funds are rebalanced each day at the close of business and there
are too many factors (IMHO) to answer your question accurately. If using
the above percentages, your answer is still going to be a poor estimate.
Example:
I have $100,000.00 in the L-2020 which breaks down like this:
$31,400 in the (G) divided by current share price = number of shares
$ 7,730 in the (F) divided by current share price = number of shares
$32,070 in the (C) divided by current share price = number of shares
$10,900 in the (S) divided by current share price = number of shares
$17,900 in the (I) divided by current share price = number of shares

At 7:30pm (share price update time) take your number of shares and
multiply it by the "new" share price which was published by the TSP:
http://www.tsp.gov/rates/share-prices.html
Again, the percentages changes daily as loses and gains and then the
rebalancing percentages change over time. It simply is a poor estimate.

There's a lot to learn on this web site and it will take time to read all
the threads which relate to specific questions. Take your time, have
fun and make some money !

thank ya'll for your help it's just the timing part that puzzles me , if I "sell" out of the 2020 fund before 12:00 the price it sells for is that days close, thus would the "buy" into the G fund be that days number or the following day?

You would be buying into G at the price of the close Monday/open Tuesday (same thing). Your money would be in the G fund first thing in the AM thus in for the whole day.

IFT A > B before 12 NOON price for both is as of COB that day.

IFT A > B after 12 NOON price for both is as of COB next day.
