It's Not Your Imagination: Your Juice Has Been Downsized

February Consumer Reports mag. has a good article on this trend with numerous examples. Learned about this practice in a marketing class over 40 years ago. Raise the cost of something and customers complain i.e. buy another brand. Shrink amount you're getting and most people don't even notice.

Very true indeed. It's all good until the "Unwashed Masses" lose their cable feed to "My Name Is Earl" and run out of butts and have to downsize from Bud to Meisterbrau. Then someone is going to have to bring the National Guard back from the Sandbox.

Think that this guy has anything to do with it??

Steady,

I hope the new year also is a happy and healthy one for you and your loved ones. :D

Global Food-Price Index Hits Record

A prominent indicator of international food prices hit a record high in December, sounding a warning about looming threats to the world's poor and to global growth.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's monthly food price index rose for the sixth consecutive month to 214.7, topping the previous peak, 213.5, reached in June 2008.

The index doesn't measure domestic retail prices, which can be affected by a wide range of factors, including government subsidies. Instead, the index tracks export prices and can still serve as a barometer of what consumers may pay.

My wife has been complaining about the food container downsizing for months. Less food products for the same money, inflation?

CB, I hope the New Year finds you and yours doing wonderful.

I'd like to add that I've noted the packages of some items are bigger - but the bag is less than half full when you get to peak inside.

They have been adding Oxygen to gas -- which expands the gasoline but you get less than an actual gallon - poorer milage.

Buy any meat -- outside of a good grocery store -- and you are mainly getting junk.

In most situations I don't think it could be Inflation - but somehow that thought would be more 'comforting'.

AIG - the Key Stone - behind the whole 'explosive weapon' gets a huge bail out from 'us common folks' and was just shy of 800% profit last yr.

All the Big BANKS - who planned and triggered the explosion have raked in a huge fortune.

I believe what your wife is seeing is Corporate Greed and they will do everything possible to give us less and charge us more.

Well - was actually stopping by to say hi -- sorry about the rave.

Toliet tissue too.

Compare the size of your roller/ holder to the roll.

Scott, Charmin, all of em wacked off around an inch of the width about 2-3 yrs ago?

Youre not supposed to notice, ok?

I just want to know how /where do all the TP producers meet together so they all act in concert together to change the industry standard width for buttwipe.

Makes you wonder.

And ya don't mess with a person's TP, that'll start a fight.

I bought a boxed set of different sized glasses, mostly for the water glasses - got a great price. There were some tiny glassses also in the set that were around 4" tall and 1 1/2" at the base. The sig other brought me a glass of cider in one of these, so I asked him why he was using the "shot glasses". "It says on the box they're juice glasses."

Thanks for the info, I've known this was going to happen, now I can send wify the link. :)

Called margin compression for retailers. Input raw material/wholesaler costs going up, people's incomes flat or going down, can't afford higher prices for what they have to buy, but will still buy what they need as much as can afford, just get less for their $.

Retailers getting squeezed hard on profits-both ends, solution, sell smaller amounts but at same price as previous. if they can't make a profit, they won't be staying in business. You-get less retail product for what you can afford to pay.

producers/wholesalers-if they can't sell at profit, they won't be producing. We're all in trouble, some sooner than others.

This actually started during clinton's first term, nothing new, maybe sooner, but I didn't notice it.
Some products like tuna, they have been reducing the amount of tuna but adding cheap poisonous soy protein to keep the protein content the same on the side of the can. This has also been going on with other products since the clinton yrs.
not saying he had anything to do with it, just listing a time frame.
