iPhone and Android Apps Coming Soon

Here's the status of the mobile version of the forum...

I purchased the applications for the mobile versions of the message board and now I just have to jump through a few hoops to get the apps implememented.

I had to apply for Apple and Android developer licenses, then create the apps. For some strange reason, these apps can only be "compiled" on an Apple machine, so I bought a cheap Mac on Ebay. It could be a couple of weeks, but we are getting closer.

Now, if I only had an iPhone or Android. :cheesy: I guess this gives me a reason to buy one.

I don't understand the point of having an app. I can navigate this site as well on my phone as at home on the desktop machine.

I have no clue. I am embarrassed to say that I have never seen the site on a mobile device. I will look into the features and report back.

It is so much easier to use an app than it is to navigate the internet on a phone. Thanks for all that you are doing Tom. Much appreciated.

I abhor eBay Mobile, have to go down and clik Classic site everytime I go there on my phone (Android). Now if Tom can have an app produced that has nothing excluded from it that these web pages can offer, then I will consider using it. But every mobile site I have ever seen is just a watered-down version of the real thing. Apps for games, musical instruments, devices - they are OK. App for the IKEA store? -- it sucks.

Or is this just for the MB only?

Im mixed up - well I think it would have to be pretty good to even beat the MB interface I get on my phone, I can see the Yahoo charts
and really do everything I can sitting at my home computer. Hard to beat that with a simple interface that just allows you to read and send
posts.

Is there a mobile (stripped down) version of the forum? I tried using it through mobi but it wasn't so good...

Anyone else out there without a smart phone using this site?

Some mobile apps make things easier and some don't. I agree, Ebay is one that loses something--functionalty for certain tasks. On the other hand, the NY Times and WaPo are great--but the only thing going on is reading..no transactions, etc. My personal criteria is a) did i lose something i need, function or info, compared to the real deal b) is it easier or more difficult to navigate..eg Huff Post recently changed mobile app causing me to open stories i had no intention of opening, just when shuffling through the categories. I love my Bank of America ap, even on the Iphone, and that has lots of transactions...some things to do well with apps, some don't. Angrybirds- good :)

Tom..this is my fourth attempt at trying to tell you this. I use this site from my Ipad, and it works just fine, BUT ever since you announced this Android app, i can no longer get to the tsptalk.com home page. It diverts me to tsp.net with a sticky note. I can only get in by using my history...and not dare to go the homepage or I'll end up back at the sticky note. i use my Ipad 99% of the time these days and have a premium subscription, so use this site a lot, so it is a bit annoying. Is it not an easy fix? I guess i cant read your commentaries anymore either.

My, what good eyes you have my dear.

And quick fingers too, must come from assembling all that IKEA furniture.

Tom put up an app through the app marketplace. It works for me but I wish I could view by post/latest. Tom's commentary is available under blogs/all, should work for iphone users too.

And you can upload pictures from the app, somebody with a droid screen capture thingy post some visual feedback of the menus for him? I'm still looking for one because I got distracted by the end of the world this weekend.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm pressed for time.

On Monday I tried getting to www.tsptalk.com from my phone. Instead I was directed to tsp.net which had a note, mobile site coming soon.

In the past I was able to go to the full tsptalk site. I would still like to get the full site from my phone.

Does anybody have this same problem, or know how to get to the full site instead of the mobile site?

I am having the same problems and frustrations.

Is there a way to remove the redirect to tsp.net?

I tried a mobile version creator but it was not working correctly and now I have to mess with the DNS settings to try to get things back to the way they were. Unfortunately it can take up to 24 hours to notice any change in DNS settings so it is a slow process. I am working on it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update

This morning

Ipad still goes to tsp.net with a link to go to "GoMobi by DotMobi"

Iphone does sonething different..it still goes to tsp.net, but now announces the page you are looking for has been moved to www.tsptalk.com. If your browser doesn't automatically go there within a few seconds you may need to click here

When at the page described above for Iphone, looks like it is in an endless loop trying to leave www.tsp.net/

I noticed that (tsp.net) with IE9, but in FireFox it does take you to tsptalk.com. I am about giving up on IE9 as it does too many strange things.

tsptalk.mobi appears to still be down. I have been working with the support folks who yesterday told me:
I’m sorry you are havingproblems. The .mobi is new and of course we are all learning. I will get withEnom right away to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.
I will give them a few hours to fix it today today before replying back.

Sorry about this. I wish I knew what to do to fix it.
