It's not a one size fits all kind of thing -- and that's the hardest thing for most of us to remember.

Dear friend, it largely depends on the Risk Level you're comfortable with.

This Site -- as totally wonderful as it is in every imaginable way -- is largely geared towards the day to day. So if your Risk Level is 'LOW' say super Low -- then it's like a million times harder. Each day the Markets are going down it feels like you're losing everything -- and seriously it can be so emotionally disturbing it feels like you've lost everything or WORSE that if you don't immediately put everything in G Fund you'll have nothing left.

If your Risk Level is 'HIGH' - then essentially that means you can honestly ignore the Day to Day and be very content with keeping things in place.

So the most important thing is getting a feel for where your most comfortable --- mainly -- how High a RISK are you really good with.

On 12/1 - I went 100% I Fund and got over 8% that month --
Then went 50/50 - S/I and plan to stay there for at least the next few months.

The best way to help is knowing where your allotments are right now. If your 100% G Fund then I would start with 20 to 30% to C,S or I. As you you see the Gains rise and you get more comfortable -- put a little more in and go from there.

Welcome! You'll get many different suggestions. There are lots of very smart folks here with just as many different strategies. My suggestion is to pick one of the Lfunds depending on how much risk you are willing to accept (i.e. L2050) and pile as much as you can into it through your bi-weekly contributions until you have learned enough to feel more comfortable with making moves from one fund to another. Keep adding every time you get a raise or a step increase until you are max'd out. Read and learn! Watch the autotracker and see what the top 50 or so are doing with their accounts. Good luck!

Let me give you my account number. Just kidding.

Scotty had a good idea, but may I suggest one of the lower L funds like L2020 with less risk until you get your feet wet.

When Steady said 20 or 30% in C, S, or I funds he meant up to 10% in C, 10% in S and 10% in I with 70% in the G fund.

Do a lot of reading of members account talk and maybe you can emulate the moves of some one that seems to agree with your risk tolerance.

Plus there is priemum services avaliable that will do the work for you and give you buy and sell signals.

I'm trying Intrepid's right now, I have some problems like I get in too late on a rally or exit too late as it goes back down. I can do somewhat ok but he can beat the 4% I try for. Wonder if I can get 2% off for mentioning his system?
