So far so good. I'm glad I have a generator. Power went out last night around 10pm so I got the generator running for the refrigerators. Power came on at 2am and First Energy called to say my power was on. Got up and started turning off lights and the power went out again. Woke up around 5am to check things out and power came back on about 6am. Waiting for it to get light out to find what trees fell or parts of. I could hear them last night but it was to dark to figure out where they were. Over the last 48 hours my weather station shows we have had 3+ inches of rain and still raining. Very windy 15-20 MPH with a wind gust of 38 MPH early this morning. I know the gust was higher than that but being surrounded by trees knocks the wind speed down a bit.

Hang in there you'll be OK. After Hurricane Hugo went right over my house in Charleston SC we had no power for 2 weeks. Winds gusting to 156 mph sustained at 135.

Conserve your gasoline. I went through Katrina in 2005. One thing I learned was you don't have to continuously power the fridge. CHarge it up for 1 hour and it will keep the content cool for ~ 3hours.

I went though 5 gallons/day, until I got that advice from a neighbor.

I prepacked my chest freezer with block ice, covered it with insulation batts and moved all the stuff in the frig to it when the power went out. I still lost some food but it worked good for a week and a half. Had to have a BIG BBQ for us and the neighbors when the meats had to go, Party!

Good advice. I have had the generator for a few years. Not enough to run the whole house but good enough to keep the fridges going and I figured out how to hot wire the gas furnace for the winter outages. I can also have one room with the computer and TV running so we can stay in contact with the rest of the world.

Right now still pretty windy but everything is back to normal, what ever that is.:laugh:

Good work looks like you're ready, conserve gas, all of the stations might be closed for a while and will be very popular with desperate customers after they open.
